Mrs. Melvin Taylor, Bel - grave, and Mrs. Edgar Dane of Howick called on Miss Gertrude Bush and Mrs. W. Weir last Sat- urday. at- urday. Mr. and Mrs. Laurie Van- Velsor have returned home from a trip through the Maritimes and Eastern States and report a lovely and picturesque tour. Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Taylor and family of Wingham visited Mr. and Mrs. Art Wheeler on Labour Day. The Ross Tomans, Miss Lynne Wright and Miss Hazel Sparling have returned home following a pleasant week spent at McKellar. Mrs. Alonzo Sparling spent last week with Mr. and Mrs, Walter Eaton of Seaforth. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gib- son and family were week -end visitors with Misses Elsie and Marion Gibson. Labour Day visitors at the same home were Dr. and Mrs. Thos. Gibson of Hamilton. Miss Ann Douglas has resum- ed her teaching position in Ot- tawa for this term. We are sorry to hear Miss Kaye Wright underwent surgery last week in Wingham and Dis- trict Hospital. Mrs. Wm. Cullen has return- ed to her home in Toronto af- ter spending some time with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clar- ence White. We are pleased to hear Mr. Gordon Adams retumed to his home on Sunday from Wingham and District Hospital. Mr. and Mrs, Harry Hupfer of Melvindale, Mich., called on relatives in and around Wrox- eter at the week -end. Miss Gail Statia has returned home after spending the sum- mer months at Milford Manor. Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hupfer and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Hupfer visited Misses Elva and Evelyn Hupfer on Sunday. Mr. David Sanderson, Ailsa Craig, spent the week -end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Sanderson. Mrs. Elizabeth Mer- cer of Markdale was a visitor at the same home. Miss Connie Clarke has re- turned home after spending the summer months at Honey Har- bour. Miss Elaine Sanderson spent the week -end at Barry's Bay. Mr. Stuart Sanderson, Tor- onto, spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Sanderson. Mr. and Mrs. Verne Clark and Miss Dawn Lue Clark were in Scarboro recently, where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Skelton. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Clement are at their home here for the week -end. Mr. Dick Allan, San Fran- sisco, visited last week with Mr. Terry Clark, and accompanied by Terry, spent a day in Lon- don with Mr. Ed. Robertson. Judge R. S. Hetherington of Wingharri, on Saturday, Sep- tember 4th, united in marriage Helen Lockridge Fleury and Roger Douglas West, both of Wingham. The couple's attendants were Mr, and Mrs. Eric West of Kit- chener, and the bride's two sons, Michael and Paul. FORDWICH 1 BUS DRIVER RESCUES " LADIES AT EXHIBITION FORDWICH--The Women's i Institute enjoyed a bus trip last week to the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto. Every- , one agreed they had a good time, even the four ladies who know their way around Ford- wich but got lost at the Ex. They just couldn't find that bus even though it hadn't moved from where it was parked. Too many gates to go through, but never the right one. The good natured bus driver, Allan Reed, from Lucknow, finally found them before starting for home. David Brown, one and a half- year -old son of Mr. and Mrs, Jack Brown, is confined to Lis- towel Hospital, suffering from a virus. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brecker at Baden. John Brecker returned home af- ter spending the summer here. Friends of Mrs. Elsie Demer- ling will be glad to know she was able to return home last week from Walkerton Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Doug Wild - fang, Brian and Paul of Cooks- ville spent the week -end with. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Simmons. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stewart and children of Oshawa visited a couple days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Stewart. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Douglas visited over the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Johnston in Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Jacobson and family visited in Hamilton over the week -end with rela- tives. Mrs. Jacobson and child- ren retrained for a longer visit. Fall Quilting Schedule Set LAKELET--Eighteen mem- bers and one guest attended the monthly meeting of the Mc- Intosh ILO, W.:rn Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Jack Wright. Opening devo- tions were arranged by Mrs. Leslie Harkness and consisted of a hymn, Scripture reading by Mrs. Bruce Harkness, andmedi- tation and prayer by the leader. During the business meeting reports were heard from con- veners of finance and quilting committees, the latter inform- ing members of two quiltswait- ing to be completed, and ar- ranged time and place to begin the fall quilting schedule. Christmas card orders are to be handed in not later than Oc- tober 15. Arrangements were made to have a hot water heat- er installed in the church kit- chen, Mrs. Robert Harkness pre- sented an introduction to the study on Trinidad which prom- ises to be very interesting. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. BELGRAVE Mr. and Mrs. Ted Fear and Owen visited for the Labour Day week -end with Mrs. R. H. Bul- ler of Morpeth. The Belgrave Women's In- stitute are invited to attend the Whitechurch Women's Institute meeting on Sept. 14 at 8.15 P. m. Mrs. Cora McGill returned home last week from a visit with relations in Calgary and Banff. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pletch, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pletch, and Lorne Campbell spent the week -end with Max Pletch at Timmins. Meavy Toll Statistics released by the O. P, P, District 6 headquarters in Mt, Forest indicate that 13 persons died in the six -county area from motor vehicle acci- dents, during the month of July, There was a total of 352 ac- cidents, 10 of which had fatal ities with 188 persons injured, Across the province there were 4,162 accidents in those areas patrolled by the provin- cial police with 106 persons meeting death on the roads.
