Mrs. Pearl Patterson and Miss Leslie Campbell visited over the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Willoughby Patterson at Cooksville, and with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Barrons at Cordova Mines, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Mat- thews of Welland were week- end guests with Mr. and Mrs. James Vittie. Misses Maude and Esther Harding of Toronto are spending several days at their home here., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Camp- bell, Alan and Kerry left last week on a two weeks' motor trip to the Western Provinces. Misses Donna Norris and Leslie Campbell visited a few days last week with relatives in Brantford. Mr. and Mrs.Jack King have purchased the former Padfield home in the village, with pos- session immediately. Misses Karen Carswell and Peggy Gibson left last week for Woodington House where they will be employed for the sum- mer. Week -end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Johnston were Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Arnett of Wyoming and Mrs. Ott Ryan of Chatham, Mr. Anson Demerling visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Gor- don Goldrich, in London. Mrs. Demerling returned home after spending the past ten days there. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Donaldson visited over the week -end with relatives at Hope Bay. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Demer- ling visited recently with their sons, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Demer- ling and Mr. Jim Demerling and also with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Demerling, at Fenelon Falls. Miss Ruth Johnston visited with her sister, Mrs.Janet Lind- say, in Toronto over the week- end. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Kirkby of Kingston spent last week with Mr. and Mrs. Carroll John- son. Mrs. Alex Wray, Brian and Grace of Toronto are spending a couple of weeks at their home here. Mrs. Bob Petznick, Gail and Dianne of Kitchener spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Ira Schaefer. Miss Lenore Beswitherick left by plane from Malton Air- port for Lions, France, where she will attend the College of Louraine for one month and also will spend a month touring Scotland. Miss Iris Armstrong, daugh- ter of Mr, and Mrs. Everitt Arm- strong, has obtained a position as teacher in Avon Public School in Stratford, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hambly, Miss Janie Hambly and Mr. Joe Givens spent the week -end at the home of Mr. Vern Hambly at Port Burwell. Friends of Mr. Harry Bast will be sorry to learn he is con- fined to Palmerston Hospital, suffering from a bronchial con- dition, Miss Lori Riddell of Lindsay spent last week at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bride. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Keith and three children of Stoney Creek were week -end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Keith. Mrs. Nina Armstrong is spending two weeks at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin McDowell in Galt. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Simmons, Anne and Kenneth and Lisa Espensen spent Sunday at Bel - fountain. Mrs. Rosemary Campbell and Jimmy of London were week -end guests with her pa- rents, Mr. and Mrs. Crosby Sothem. Mrs. Howard Harris enter- tained at her home for a mis- cellaneous shower for Miss Wil- ma Winkel who was married Friday night. She received lovely gifts for which she ex- pressed her thanks to the host- ess and friends. BIRTHS JACKLIN-To Mr. and Mrs. Ken Jacklin (Betty Sanderson), a daughter on Friday, July 2nd in the K -W Hospital, Kitchener. MARRINER-To Mr. and Mrs. Larry Marriner, a daughter, Kimberly Jane, on Tuesday, June 29 in the Listowel Hospi- tal. MEASURING UP -Sgt. Larry VanTassel, of London, takes the measure of Cadet Terry Brooks, R. R. 2, Wingham, at the opening of the Central Command Cadet Camp at Camp Ipperwash, last week -end. SHOP CANADIAN So much more eating pleasure General Meeting Held at Church FORDWICH-The general meeting of the United Church Women was held in the Sunday School room. The worship ser- vice was taken by Mrs. Scott Clarkson. Her theme was"The Steadfast Love of God". Mrs. Ira Schaefer read the Scripture and Mrs. Robert Connell offered prayer. Mrs. George Ashton presided for the business period. Her opening remarks were based on "The Love of God". Roll call was a quotation on love. It was announced that the North Regional meeting of the Huron Presbyterial will be held in Fordwich United Church Octo- ber 19th. Miss Marian Harding sang a solo. Mrs. Lorne Siefert Jr. intro- duced her brother, Lloyd Cober of Kitchener, who showed slides he had taken in Haiti when he was there helping re- build towns after a hurricane. Mrs. George Ashton thanked Wilma Winkel to Live in Oshawa FORDWICH-Pink and white gladiolus and mums decorated Knox Presbyterian Church in Harriston on Friday for the evening ceremony uniting in marriage Wilma G. Winkel and Stanley Herbert Wigg. Rev. Van Dyk of the Reformed Church in Harriston officiated and Robert Winkel was soloist. Mr. and Mrs. Goosen Winkel of R. R.1, Fordwich are the bride's parents and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Wigg of Kitchener. The skirt of the bride's floor length gown of French satin in Empire style draped into a train. The high waist was ap- pliqued with heavy lace and the dress had short sleeves. Her short illusion veil was held by tiny flowers and she carried a bouquet of pink Sweetheart roses and white stephanotis. She was given in marriage by her father. Gowned in identical dresses were her attendants, Miss Trix Winkel of Kitchener as maid of honor, and the bridesmaids, Miss Kathleen Wigg of Kitchen- er and Mrs. Neil Degraw of London. Their pink Italian cot- ton sheath dresses were street - length and featured overskirts. They wore matching accessor- ies and carried bouquets of pink carnations and white mums. The groom was attended by James McDowell of Stouffville and Joe and Harry Winkel of Fordwich were the ushers. The bride's mother wore a beige brocaded satin dress with matching bag and accessories. The groom's mother was attired in a beige lace dress with matching duster and gold acces- • sories. Each wore a corsage of gold mums. Guests attended a reception at the Blue Barn in Listowel at 9 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Wigg, who will live in Oshawa, left on a trip to Northern Ontario. The bride's travelling costume was a pink and white cotton tweed suit with white accessories, She wore a corsage of white mums. Mrs. Wigg is a graduate of Stratford Teachers' College. Mr. Cober for his pictures and very interesting commentary. The Evening Unit served lunch and a social hour was enjoyed. CHILD INJURED BY GLASS FROM DOOR FORDWICH-Master Wayne Nickel, eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Nickel, suf- fered a cut above his right ear which required ten stitches. The glass in a combination door shattered as he went out. Doctor Creighton of Clifford attended him. Gorrie Mr. and Mrs. Ian Howes of Bearskin Lake are spending their vacation with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Grainger and Mrs. Gilbert Howes, Wroxeter, and other relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Gowdy visited Saturday with Miss Ro- selle Johnston at Palmerston. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stric- ker, Kitchener and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Gilkinson, Anne and Marian of Listowel spent Sunday, with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Koch. Miss Alice Hodgson and Mr. Mark Hodgson of Guelph visited Miss Maude Higgins on Sunday and attended the Higgins re- union in Bluevale Park. Misses Colleen and Caro- lynne McMillan spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Allan McTaggart, Moncrief. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Nickel visited Mrs. Wilbert Gallaway and attended the Galbraith re- union in Gorrie Park on Sunday. Miss Marian Adams is spend- ing a week with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robinson at Point Clark. Mr. and Mrs. David Neilson, Elizabeth and Heather are visiting Capt. John and Mrs. Neilson of Shiloh, Man., and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Collinson of Souris, as well as Winnipeg friends. The minutes of the last meeting were read by Doris Carswell. It was decided to hold the next meeting on July 12th at Mrs. Garfield Gibson's.
