Despite the fact that the
huge flow of patients, providing
a wide variety of illnesses, con-
tribute to the Hospital for Sick
Children being Canada's lead-
ing pediatric teaching centre,
one of its features is the indi-
vidualized attention every pa-
tient receives.
"In the course of their stu-
dies here, both students seek-
ing their medical degrees, and
those taking post -graduate stu-
dies for specialty certificates,
can see the whole gamut of
comrnon and rare diseases and
injuries suffered by children,"
says Dr. J. H. Ebbs, director of
Post -graduate Medical Educa-
tion. "This very important, be-
cause the seemingly rare con-
ditions are slowly being reveal-
ed as a vast pool of illnesses
which we are just understand-
ing now."
In addition to the approxi-
mately 350 students who re-
ceive year round or part of
their training here, graduate
students from all over the
world come to the hospital on
fellowships or scholarships for
specialty training or to study
research methods in the hospi-
tal's Research Institute. To
meet the needs of expanded
teaching programs at the hospi-
tal, new lecture space is part
of the building program for
which the hospital is seeking
$13,900,000 in public support.
