Mr. and Mrs. Russel Ireland of Laguna Beach, Calif. , visited at the home of Miss Mary Duff last week. Mr. and Mrs. R.J. McMurray spent a day in Kitchener last week. Donald Small, an officer cadet at the Royal Military College, Kingston, from Syd- ney, N. S., was the guest of Hugh Mundell for the week- end. Both boys are at present training at Camp Borden. Mr. and Mrs.Jack McMinn of King City, visited Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Lillow, and Mr. Norman McMinn. Mr. and Mrs.Jim Wright, Gordon and Raymond were with Mr. and Mrs.Jim Johnston at Listowel, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mur- chison, of Camp Borden, visit- ed with her brother, Mr.John Brent and Mrs. Brent. Fred Brewer, of Woodstock, was home on Saturday. Union services will be held in Bluevale during the months of July and August. During July, services will be held in Knox Presbyterian Church, with Rev. T. E. Kennedy as preacher. In August, the services will be in the United Church with Rev. G. C. Mitchell in charge. Mc- Kinnon. Mrs. Jas. Laidlaw Buried Thursday Mrs,Jawes W. Laidlaw of Whitechurch passed away in Wingham Hospital on June 21st, in her 77th year, after being in poor Health for several months. The former Wilhclinina !Banetr Straughan was the dau- ghter of the late James and Ag- nes Straughan, She was horn in Colborne Township on May 25, 1889. A graduate of Goderich Business College, she worked several years in Toronto. On April 18th, 191'7, in Auburn manse, she married James W. Laidlaw and resided on the twelfth concession of West Wa- wanosh until Mr, Laidlaw's death in 1957. Mrs. Laidlaw is survived by two sons, Kenneth of London and Elroy of West Wawanosh; six grandchildren, two brothers, Edward and Andrew Straughan of Goderich. One sister, Mrs. Oliver McBrien (Minnie) and one brother, Calmer Straughan predeceased her. Mrs. Laidlaw was a member of Chalmers' Presbyterian Church, Whitechurch, and a life member of the W.M.S. The funeral service was held from Currie's funeral cha- pel, Wingham, on Thursday. Rev. Gordon L. Fish of St. An- drew's Presbyterian Church of- ficiated, assisted by Mr. Donald Watt, student minister of Chalmers' Church, Whitechurch with interment in Wingham Cemetery. Palbearers were six nephews, Clifford Laidlaw, Raymond Laidlaw, Ivan Laid- law, Ted Straughan, Robert Straughan and Martin Straugh- an. Art Laidlaw, David Straugh— an, Donald Straughan and Vik Pagon were flower bearers. On Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Gaunt attended Lang - side anniversary services and visited with Mr. and Mrs. John- ston Conn. Mr. Mac Allan, San Fransis- co, has arrived to spend the month of July with Mrs. Allan at their summer home here. Luncheon guests on Saturday with their grandparents, Mr, and Mrs. George Galbraith, were Mr. and Mrs, Bert Watson, Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Watson, Sandra, David and Robert of Saskatoon. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Laurie VanVelsor were Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Hembley, Dublin. Mr. and Mrs. George Allan of Lennox ville, Quebec are spending a week with the for- mer's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mac Allan. Mr. Allan is in the mathematics department at Bishop's College School in Len- nox ville. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Robin- son, Clinton, spent the week- end at their home here. Mr. and Mrs. George Gal- braith visited Mrs. F. Sleight - holm at Listowel on Sinday. Mr. and Mrs. Dean Karn and family were in Dundalk on Sunday where they visited friends. Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Haugh and Eileen spent Sunday with Mrs. Isaac Stokes and Miss Edith, Turnberry Twp. Mr. and Mrs. Selah Breckenridge of Jamestown visited at the same home. Ryan at Mildmay's Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church. Father Ryan is leaving Mildmay to take over duties in Guelph. On Wednesday evening, the Steven family attended the Mildmay United Church Sunday picnic. Mrs.John Kerwin and child- ren spent a few days last week, visiting members of her family in Toronto, and attended a family reunion at her brother's cottage at Burk's Falls. Belmore School students, with some of their mothers, at- tended and competed in Field Day activities in Teeswater on Friday of last week. Among the prize winners from the local school were Allan Dickson, Graham Rutherford, Douglas reffray, and Eileen Darling. The community is indeed proud of their efforts. Members of the Belmore- Mclntosh-Mildmay Hi -C Club enjoyed a barbecue at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Murray Mulvey on Friday evening of last week. Some of the community's young people attended the Junior Farmers' Field Day held in Listowel on Saturday. Graduation exercises were held in St. Thomas • Elgin General Hospital. and family of Goderich at- tended services in Belmore Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning and spent the day with Mrs. Herb Burchill and family. The annual Metcalfe fam- ily reunion was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Metcalfe on Sunday afternoon. Fifty-six family members at- tended, from Lions Head, Fer- gus, Wingham, London, and the surrounding area. Games and contests were enjoyed and supper served outdoors. Mr. and Mrs. Clark Renwick of McIntosh were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Abraham. Mr. Russell Press began work on Monday in the offices of Stelco Steel, at Hamilton. We wish him every success in his new venture.
