There were 40 events for the first field day held at the school, which it is anticipated will be an annual event. Rev. and Mrs. Harry Jennings of Brussels, accompanied by Mrs. Charles Lawrence, spent last week -end at the homes of the former's brothers, Mr. Jack Jennings and Mr. Erick Jennings of Chatham. Howick Central Holds Field Day The first annual Play and Field Day at the Howick Cen- tral School was held on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 22nd. The pupils in Grades 1, 2, and 3, after competing in the races for their individual age groups moved to the front lawn of the school where 22 different teams competed for first, second and third prizes in the various games and re- lays. The pupils in grades 4 to 8 competed in races, relays, high jumping, broad jumping and the hop -step -and -jump events. The following are the indi- vidual champions according to age: Junior -9 and 10 girls, Val- erie Gibson, Gr.4, 10 points, teacher, Miss P . Harris; boys, Roy Haskins, Gr. 5,' 9 points, teacher, James Peirson. Intermediate, 11 and 12 yr. girls, Cheryl Lynn and Linda Watson tied with 8 points, both are Gr. 6 students from Mr. Peirson's room; boys, Rickey Clark, 8 points, Gr. 6, Mr. Peirson, teacher. Senior, 13,14 and over, girls, Kathy Greenley and Mar- garet Siddall tied with 11 points,both are Grade 8 students from Miss Joyce McNay's room; boys, George Redpath, 7 points, Gr. 8 student from Miss McNay's room. Attends 4-H Conference LAKELET-Miss Janette Wright was one of the seven 4-H members from Huron County to attend the 4-H Homemaking Girls' Conference held at the University of Guelph, June 22 to 25. There were 200 members present re- presenting 11,000 4-H mem- bers from every county in the province. The program theme was, "The Club Girl Today and To- morrow", and Miss Jean Scott, supervisor of Junior Extension was in charge. Speakers for the conference were Dr. J. D. MacLachlin, pre- sident of the University of Guelph; Mrs. Trivers, president of Federated Women's Institute of Ontario; Dr. Margaret Mc- Cready, Dean of Macdonald Institute; Miss Helen McKer- cher, Director of Horne Econo- mics Service. Music was supplied by Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Kidd. A film and address on the subject, "Feeding the World in the Future", was given by J.H. Hulse, director of reasearch for Maple Leaf Mills, Toronto. Miss Ethel Chapman, editor of Home and Country also address- ed the girls. William A. Stewart, minister of agriculture, was the speaker at the closing banquet at Creel - man Hall. Hold Picnic at Boiler Beach WHITIiCIII.IRCII-The White- church Y. P, S. held a picnic Saturday evening at I3oiler Beach with around 30 attenders, Games were supervised by Ar- thur Laidlaw and Gary Chap- man. A camp fire was lighted, around which a sing -song was held. with Bevan Tiffin and Joe McKinnon accompanying on their guitars. The worship service was led by Art Laidlaw and Gary Chapman. Readings were given by Misses Margaret Moore, Muriel Conn and Donna Rin- toul. Lunch was served. BELGRAVE Miss Judy Currell of Rohl - coke is visiting for the sutntner with Mr, and Mrs, Ted Fear and family. Miss Donna Grasby and Miss Marilyn Taylor left on Thurs- day to work for the summer at Patterson's Kaye Lodge, near Bracebridge. Memorial service at Bran- don Cemetery will be held on Sunday at 3 p.m. Miss Rutli Micllie left on Tuesday to work for the sum-, mer at Lakeland Lodge, near Bracebridge.
