--Mr. William Forgie quiet-
ly celebrated his 92nd birthday
on Monday in the Wingham
District Hospital, where he has
been a patient for over a year.
--Mrs. W. W. Armstrong left
Toronto on Monday for the
coast where she will visit in
Vancouver and Everett, Wash.,
for two weeks. On June 21st
she will sail on the steamship
Orsova for a round -the -world
cruise. She will spend a week
in London and then sail on the
Oriana for Bermuda and Fort
Everlave. After a few days in
Dunedin, she will fly back to
Toronto.
--Mrs. George Williams is
spending a few days in Toronto
with her daughter, Mrs. C.
Bates and Mr. Bates. While
there she will attend the gradu-
ation of her granddaughter,
Miss Patricia Bates at the East
General Hospital.
--Mr. Ronald Seddon of
Brantford visited with Mr, and
Mrs. Michael Willie last Tues-

DELEGATES ATTEND
DIOCESAN COUNCIL
The Catholic Women's
League of Canada, London Dio-
cesan Council held the 45th an-
nual convention at Chatham
last month. Representing Sa-
cred Heart Parish, Wingham,
were Mrs. Walter Arscott of
Whitechurch and Mrs. Michael
Willie of Wingham. Two hun-
dred and sixty-three registered
for the two-day convention.
Rev. J. L. Hennessay, dio-
cesan director, welcomed
everyone and spoke briefly on
this year's convention title,
"The People of God". The con-
vention theme was " Vocations
to the Sisterhood". Mrs. S.Mc-
Dermott of Ingersoll, diocesan
president, introduced the re-
presentatives and guests.
Business followed with the
main issue, the establishment
of a voluntary fund to support
the Vanier Institute of the fam-
ily at a cost of $100,000, adop-
ted by the Catholic League of
Canada for the centennial year
1967.
Holy mass was observed at
St.Joseph's Church each day.
Wednesday evening the ban-
quet was held at the Chatham
Community Centre with greet-
ings from Miss Catherine Toal,
national council representative
and Mrs. Mel Walters, provin-
cial council. The Ursuline
Mother House Nuns' Choir en-
tertained.
Guest speaker was Monsign-
or Mahoney. In his address he
praised the 50 years of service
of Fr. Costello and presented
him with a small token of his
loyalty.

Blue Barn Kitchen

CHICKEN AND FRUIT SALAD
Lettuce
4 whole boned chicken breasts,
halved to make 8 sides
3 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. cooking oil
2 tbsp. butter
1/3 cup cooking oil
1 tbsp. lemon juice
1 tbsp. pineapple juice
salt and pepper
pinch dry mustard
paprika
1 cup seedless green grapes,
halved
1 cup well drained pineapple
tidbits
1 cup finely chopped celery
1 cup cooked mushroom slices
2 green onions with green tops
chopped
1 tbsp. minced parsley
1 large gherkin, chopped fine
METHOD
Heat 2 tbsp. oil and butter
in heavy skillet; add pieces of
floured chicken and cook gent-
ly till golden brown and tender.
Chill. Put cup salad oil, le-
mon juice, pineapple juice,
salt, pepper, mustard and pap-
rika in small jar with tight lid
and shake well to blend. Com-
bine grapes, pineapple, celery,
mushrooms, onion, gherkin, and
parsley in a bowl shortly before
serving time. Shake dressing
again and pour over fruit and
vegetables. Toss lightly and
chill a few minutes.
On a serving plate place a
piece of chicken, brown side
up on a lettuce leaf and fill a
lettuce cup with fruit salad.
Garnish plate with carrot curls,
radish roses or celery.

RAISIN, CABBAGE
STUFFED TOMATO
1 tbsp. white seedless raisins
cup shredded cabbage
tsp. wine vinegar
1 tsp. sugar
salt and pepper
1 tbsp. buttermilk
1 large tomato
1 hard cooked egg
parsley
METHOD
Toss together all ingredients
except last three. Chill well.
Hollow out tomato, drain and
heap with cabbage mixture.
Garnish with sliced egg and
parsley. Serve on lettuce leaf
or endive.

STRAWBERRY CREAM PIE
1 baked 9" crust
cup slivered toasted almonds
3 cups fresh strawberries
cup water
cup sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
few drops red food coloring
Whipped creatn
1 cream filling
METHOD
Cover bottom of pre -baked
pie shell with altnonds and fill
with favorite cream filling.
Slice 2 cups strawberries, re-
serving a few perfect berries
for centre. Arrange slices

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Kieffer
of R. R.1 Wingharn received a
very pleasant surprise last Tues-
day evening when a group of
their friends met at thehomeof
Mr. and \Irs.John McBurney, in
honor of their silver wedding
anniversary. Euchre was played
and after the hostess served
lunch, the couple was presented
with an occasional chair.

versary of another couple pre-
sent, Mr. and Mrs. Eldred Ca -
The previous Saturday even-
ing Mr. and Mrs.Kieffer were
honored by a surprise dinner at
Danny's, given by their daugh-
ter, Marjorie. They were pre-
sented with a silver tea service
by their children, a card ta-
ble and chairs by the groom's
brothers and sisters, and silver
candlesticks and a silver sand-
wich plate by the bride's sister.
Guests were present from
Teeswater, Kitchener, Stratford
and Watford. A highlight of
the event was the presence of
the groom's mother, Mrs. Geo.
Kieffer and her twin sister, Mrs.
Joseph Houck of Teeswater,
who are 81 years of age.
Mr. and Mrs. Kieffer have a
family of eight children, Mar-
jorie of Stratford, Rodger of
Kitchener, Georgina (Sisters of
St.Joseph), London, and Bill,
Corinne, Ronald, Karen Anne
and Elaine at home.

To make glaze crush cup of
berries, add water, cool two
minutes and put through sieve.
Mix sugar and cornstarch, stir
into berries while slowly cook-
ing until thick and clear. Add
few drops red coloring; cool
slightly and pour over strawber-
ries. Refrigerate until serving
time, top with whipped cream
and the whole berries.
