THANKS TO YOU, TOO.
At the Commercial League
banquet, held May 1st, Presi-
dent Joe Schneider and his wife
Vera, made a special presenta-
tion to Doris Walker and Doro-
thy Cameron. This presentation
had nothing to do with the
League, but was a personal
thank you for efforts "beyond
the call of duty" on the part of
Doris and Dorothy. They each
received a beautiful candy dish.
So, to Joe and Vera, both Doris
and Dorothy extend their thanks
and appreciation for their gifts,

Mr. Gorbutt brought the mat-
ter of repairs to lights in the
ball park before the council,,
The recreation director then
initiated discussion concerning
the summer program. He asked
the council members if play-
grounds should be continued
this summer in view of the fact
that attendance in the past five
years has been low, indicating
a gross lack of interest. It was
decided to continue to have
playgrounds again this year and
with a re -organized program
and more adequate leadership,
interest in the playgrounds
could be revitalized.
Mr. Kersell presented his
budget for leadership. His
recommendation for salaries
was approved at a maximum
amount to be paid. If, in some
cases, he could see ways of re-
ducing this maximum a bit, he
was advised to do so,
Mr. Kersell also presented a
tentative outline of his summer
program which included soft-
ball for squirts, pee-wees and
bantams and juvenile girls'
teams to be organized into a
house league. The water safety
and learn-to-swin program will
be operated again this year at
the swimming area in the river.
There will be afternoon
playgrounds which will include
periods of arts and crafts, act-
ive games, track and field,
puppetry, swimming, hiking
and special events. These spe-
cial events would include a
playday to be held in Hanover
on July 14th, a Track and Field
Day to be held in Walkerton
August llth and a ball tourna-
ment held in Listowel on the
Labour Day week -end.

carnival; Around the World in

something of the games and
crafts of children in other lands.
Also under consideration is a
tennis program in co-operation
with the district high school
and a golf program for young
people 12 years and older in
co-operation with the Wingham
Golf Club.

You have probably already
read in the paper that Town
Council has approved the pur-
chase of roller skates for the
arena. These have been order-
ed but delivery cannot be made
until the end of May. It is
hoped that the roller skating
program in the arena can begin
the first of June.
