Miss Doris Carswell, Peggy Gibson and Iris Armstrong re- turned to Teachers' College, Stratford, on Sunday after a week's holidays at their respec- tive homes. Mr. and Mrs. Murray Kirkby returned to Kingston Sunday WI to Help with Red Shield Drive FORDWICH-The Women's Institute held their annual meeting and a pot luck dinner at the home of Mrs. Anson Demerling. Mrs. Robert Gib- son presided for the meeting. Devotions were taken by Miss Minnie McElwain and the motto. "Anytime is a good time to start carrying out a good idea", was given by Mrs. Mel Allan, The roll call was "Why we don't take office" and payment of dues. A committee consisting of Mrs. H. Harris, Mrs, S. Bride, Mrs. C. Harris, Mrs. C. Sothern and Mrs. Robert Gibson were chosen to arrange for the His- torical Society meeting in June. A senior leaders' training course was discussed. High- lights from the district execu- tive were given by Mrs. Anson Demerling. Mrs. Robert Gib- son, Mrs. Stan Bride and Mrs. John Inglis were appointed delegates to attend the East Huron District annual to be held in Molesworth United Church on May 20. A thank you note was read from the community hall board for a donation. It was decided to as- sist the Salvation Army with their Red Shield Drive. Reports of the year were given by conveners and Mrs. Stan Bride presided for the in- stallation of officers: President, Mrs. Robert Gibson; 1st and 2nd vice-presidents, Mrs, John Inglis and Mrs. Royden Devitt; sec. treas. , Mrs. Crosby Soth- ern; branch directors, Mrs. El- mer Harding, Mrs. Glenn Mar• lin and Mrs, Scott Clarkson; pianist, Mrs. Lorne Siefert Sr.; sunshine, Mrs. Earl Moore; auditors, Mrs. S. Clarkson and Mrs. Jack Brown. The nomina- ting committee is Mrs, Glenn Martin, Mrs. John Craig and Mrs. Clare Harris, Mrs. Robert Gibson gave the legend of maple syrup. after spending Easter holidays with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Johnson, Mr, and Mrs, John Tudan and family of Toronto visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Les Loughran. Mr. and Mrs, Carmen Bride of Port Credit visited Saturday with Mrs. H. M. Bride. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Winston returned home last week after spending the past six months at Zephr Hills, Florida, Johnnie Brown, Murray Wil- son and Terry Clarkson all underwent tonsilectomies in Listowel Hospital last week. Those from the community who are confined to hospitals are Mrs. Clarence Carswell in Guelph General, Mr. Fred Nor- ris in Brantford Hospital, Miss Letitia Matthews in Stratford General and Mr. and Mrs. Garn King in Palmerston Hospital. Mrs. William Sothern and Mrs. William Mulvey were Kitchener visitors one day last week. Mrs. Luella Pettiplace of Kitchener was a week -end guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs, Gerry Martin. Mr. and Mrs, Alex Keith spent the week -end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Chiomey in Port Colborne. Mrs. Chiomey and children re- turned home after spending a week here with her parents. Mr. Jack Winters spent sev- eral days with relatives in Col- lingwood. Mr. and Mrs, Earl Moore, Miss Eileen Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hoist and family visit- ed one day last week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mc- Cormick at Alton. Mrs. Pearl Patterson, Misses Leslie Campbell and Hannah Klaassen spent one day last Was Resident of Fordwich 50 Years FORDWICH-A resident of Huronview Home, Clinton, for some time, Harry Sansom of Fordwich died on Monday, April 19, He was 85. His wife, the former Mary Baird, whom he married in Fordwich, predeceased him several years ago. He is surviv- ed by one brother, James, of Toronto. Mr. Sansom at one time op- erated a general store and li- brary. He had been a resident of Fordwich for about 50 years. He was a member of the United Church and sang in the church choir for a number of years. The funeral was on Wednes- day at the Moir funeral home. Rev. A. C. Mr, and Mrs. Harper Wood of Rostock visited friends in the community on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Foster and little daughter of Toronto were week -end visitors with Mrs. Ruby Foster. Mr. and Mrs. James Vittie visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John Boyd in Gorrie. Mr. and Mrs, Ted Klaassen and family and Miss Leslie Campbell visited friends Satur- day in Aylmer. Miss Bonnie Inglis of Toron- to spent the week -end with her parents, Mr, and Mrs. John Ing- lis. Mrs. Len Wilson, Murray and Susan spent two days in Toronto. Mrs. John Dunbar and four children returned with them and spent the remainder of the Easter holidays here. Mrs. Robt. Dane Dies in Hospital GORRIE-Mrs. Robert Dane died in Wingham General Hos- pital last Thursday. She was the former Sarah Hooey and was born May 9, 1874 at Mild- may, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Hooey. She was a member of the Gorrie United Church, the United Church Women and the former Women's Missionary Society, She married Robert George Dane, January 11, 1905 and had celebrated their 60th wed- ding anniversary this January. Surviving besides her husband are one son, Stanley of Toron- to; one brother, Charles Hooey of Galt; one granddaughter and three great grandchildren. Funeral service was held at Moir funeral home, Gorrie, conducted by Rev. Fred W. Taylor. Pallbearers were Burns Stewart, Wesley Gallaway, Sterling Finlay, Robert Elsch- ner, Hector Hamilton and Rich- ard Carson. In- spection was conducted by the leaders and Doug Mason won the special woggle. A game was played which tested the boys' powers of ob- servation. It proved to be some- what frustrating, but rewarding in the end. • The Cubs were separated in- to groups for study period. Akela instructed a second star group on first aid, Raksha as- sisted another group in sema- phore and Baloo passed all the first star Cubs on telling time. Baloo also reminded the boys to get their plants started and to begin their health charts. Akela presented Torn Lee with his collector's badge and Doug Mason, Steven Maxwell and Doug Vanderwoude receiv- ed their toymaker's badge. Closing ceremonies were taken by Akela. The boys are to begin wearing full uniform next week and the meeting will start sharp at 7 p.m, and end at 8:30 p.m. Peewees Lose in Goderich The Wingham Peewees were defeated 6-0 by Forest and eli- minated from the C series at last week's Young Canada Week in Goderich. Winner of the Class C title on Saturday was the Thornhill team. WILL gE REPLACED — If plans prdsented by the Public School board to Council this week take shape the old Wingham Public School will be replaced by a new eight- room modern structure. The old building was erected in 1878, and at the moment seven of its eight rooms aro ill use. The board stated that the heating plant has to be replaced, and this would require a separate building. Little Girl Badly Burned Paula Wilson, 5 -year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Wilson of Scarborough, has been in Scarborough General Hospital the past three weeks with third degree bums on her body, suffered when her clothes caught fire from the gas range. She is recovering but will have to have skin grafting. Paula is the great granddau- ghter of Mrs. Olive Irwin, Min- nie Street. Her father attended public school here. BLUEVALE Rev. T. E. Kennedy con- ducted services in First Presby- terian Church, Seaforth and Knox Church, Bayfield, on Sunday while Rev. L. Royal of Knox Church, Goderich, con- ducted the services in Knox Churches at Bluevale and Bel - more. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Kennedy and daughters, Gail and Louise of Ajax visited during the holi- days with Rev. and Mrs. T. E. Kennedy. Rev. and Mrs. G. C. Mit- chll spent a few days in Tor- onto, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott and family of Newton visited with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hall on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Alan White and family of Springfield have been visiting Mr. and Mrs. George Lowis. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Garnis and family visited during Easter week with Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Leishman and Neil, in Mark- ham. Mrs. Cecil Griffiths of Guelph was a visitor with her sister, Mrs. Charles Bosman and Mr. Bosman during Easter week..
