As UCW Meets
FORDWICH-The Easter meet-
ing
eeting of the United Church Wo-
men was held in the Sunday
school room with Mrs. George
Ashton presiding. She opened
the meeting with a meditation
on Easter.
Scripture, related to the
Easter story, was read by Mrs.
W.Cooper. Roll call was ans-
wered with a quotation on the
cross and the resurrection.
The worship service was
conducted by the Evening Unit.
The story of Jesus' life was
interspersed with sacred music,
and presented by Mrs. Ken
Graham, Mrs. Lorne Siefert Jr.
and Mrs. A. C. Coles. Mrs. Sie-
fert led the Litany at the close
of the worship period.
A film, "The Uninvolved",
portraying Pontius Pilate at the
trial of Jesus was shown. The
narration was given by Mrs.
Graham.
The meeting closed with
benediction and the Evening
Unit, with Mrs. S. Clarkson as
convener, served lunch.

oil paintings on display, a section of which is shown in

Fashion Parade and Art Display
Attracts Interest at Open House
GORRIE-" Open House" was
held at Howick Central School
on Saturday afternoon when the
work completed by the night
classes was on display. There
were about 100 registered for
the courses, which began Nov-
ember 10 and concluded on
March 29. Instruction was giv-
en in tarm management, oral
French, art, millinery and sew-
ing.
Bruce Robertson, principal
of the school, was the chair-
man and introduced Ken Hen-
derson of Palmerston, chair-
man of Norwell District High
School Board, which sponsored
the course.
Mr. Robertson also introduc-
ed the instructresses.
Mrs. Fred Hoover of Moore-
field taught art classes. The
completed work, about 30 pic-
tures in all, were hung the full
length of the auditorium wall
and made an impressive show-
ing.
Mrs. J. H. Hardie of Moore-
field instructed the sewing
group, which started out with
24. Twenty-one completed the
course. A Cashion show was
held when the clothes made
were modelled by Mrs. Robert
Bridge and daughter, Sue, Mrs.
Robert Gibson, Mrs. Warren
Zurbrigg, Miss Nancy Neil and
Misses Patricia and Pamela Stew.

There was a hat parade, ar-
ranged by Mrs. Forest Gilmore
of Moorefield, who taught
those taking the millinery
course. There were also about
30 hats on display which were
not in the parade. Models were
Mrs. Clare Harris, Miss Patricia
Harris, Mrs. Glen McMichael
and Marjorie Ann, Mrs. Harry
Wright and Shelley, Mrs. Har-
old Dickert, Mrs. Alan Hender-
son, Mrs. Elmer Gedcke and
Diane, Mrs, Melvin Taylor,
Mrs. Glenn Johnston and Helen,
Mrs, Lyle Murray, Mrs. Douglas
Bunker, Mrs. Ken Graham, Mrs.
Vernon Hupfer, Mrs. William
Wilson, Mrs. Laverne Schenk

Also on display were cush-
ions, aprons, ladies' dresses,
children's smocked dresses, a
man's shirt, a shoe bag and
skirt, made during sewing
classes.

GORRIE-Rev. Fred W.Taylhr
received Fred Koster and La-
verne Schenk into the Gorrie
United Church on Sunday morn-
ing, by transfer. The following
were received by profession of
faith: Mrs. Fred Koster, Mrs.
Laverne Schenk, Mary Eliza-
beth Koster, Alma Louise Kos-
ter, Barry Elschner, Gerald
Hyndman, Douglas King, Don-
ald H. Templeman, David

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Finlay
were received by profession of
faith at their home on Sunday
afternoon.
MRS. VERA HOOVER, right, instructed a
class of 19 in oil painting during the winter
at Howick Central School. With Mrs. Hoov-
er are Chris Van de Water, of Howick, who
had eight paintings in the show, and Mrs.
Jack Pritchard, of Gorrie, who did six
paintings during the year, including the
large picture of the fox hunt in the back-
ground.

JUST CHECKING
"City Hall, " said the switch
board operator. There was no
answer for a minute, then a
rather nervous female voice
asked "Is this really City Hall?'
"That's right, madam,"
said the operator. "With whom
do you wish to speak?"
There was an embarrassed
silence. Then the female
voice said softly, "I guess no-
body, I just found this number
in my husband's pocket...."
