Annual Carnival
Was Successful
BELMORE-The annual ice
carnival was held on Friday
evening of last week, with an
excellent attendance of about
450 people. There were more
than 250 competitors in 32
classes. Prizes were donated by
people of the community.
Judges of the costumes were
Mrs. Jack Ferguson and Mrs.
James Inglis of Lakelet, and
Mrs. Carl Tegler of Clifford.
Rev. Douglas Steven of Bel -
more was the master of cere-
monies,
The evening began with a
display of figure skating by the
younger residents of the com-
munity, under the direction of
their instructress, Miss Mauna
Lynn Tunney of Teeswater.
Prizes for hest costumes were
as follows:
Old fashioned couple, Carol
Ann and David Kieffer. Young-
est skater, unassisted, Andy
Renwick, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Midgets Tie Playoffs 1-1
BELMORE-At time of writ-
ing, Belmore Midgets are tied
with Clifford in the best -of -
three final playoffs in the Tri -
County League. On Monday
evening of last week they play-
ed in Mildmay, shading the
Clifford team 8-7. Mac Mac-
Leod was lead scorer with three
goals.
On Thursday evening, in a
game in Clifford, they were
defeated 5-4 by that team, who
by their win, tied the series at
GORRIE WINS
IN OVERTIME
GORRIE-Gorrie scored in
overtime to defeat Stone School
9-8 in the opening game of
the Inter -County Intermediate
hockey finals. The series is a
best -of- five.
Brian Sanderson paced the
winners with four goals. Don
Whitfield scored three with
others going to John Meeson
and Lloyd Gibson. Stone School
scorers were Ross Peacock with
three, Jim Coultes and George
Procter with two each, and Bob
Cook with one.

Safety Sisters
See Demonstration
WHITECHURCH-The Safety
Sisters held their meeting on
Tuesday evening of last week
at the home of Mrs. V. Emer-
son. Miss Pamela King presid-
ed and nine girls answered the
roll call with a defect in post-
ure, Miss Donna Hand read the
minutes. The next meeting
was set for March 30 and will
be held at the home of Mrs.
Leroy Rintoul.
A discussion was held on
posture and sanitation. Mrs.
George Thompson, Reg. N.,
gave a demonstration on arti-
ficial respiration. The leader,
Mrs. Rintoul, presented Mrs.
Thompson with a cup and sau-
cer.
The home assignment was
to make a list of people who
have made an outstanding con-
tribution to health and to write
a story on one of them.
WINS LEGION TROPHY
AS CONSERVATIONIST
David Crothers, president
of Branch 180 Royal Canadian
Legion, presented the Legion
Trophy for the best junior con-
servationist to Wilson Daw, RR
3, Wingham, on Thursday
night. The presentation took
place at the meeting of the Jun-
ior Conservation Club.
The trophy for the largest
fish was won by Brian Martin,
RR 2, Wingham.
Gorrie Wins
Group Title
GORRIE-Gorrie downed Stone
School 9-7 Monday night in
Belmore Arena to take the group
title in three games straight in
a best -of -five series. Scoring
for Gorrie, John Meeson 4 goals,
Brian Elliott 2, Wayne King 2,
Brian Sanderson 1.
Goal -getters for Stone School
were George Procter 2, with
singles by Joe Nicholson, Bob
Higgins, Keith Pletch, Ross
Peacock and Archie Campbell.
Gorrie will now play the win-
ners of the Kurtzville and Har-
riston series, whose deciding
game was played on Tuesday
night in Listowel.
