Welfare Officer Speaks At Institute WHITECHURCH-The regular meeting of the Women's Insti- tute was held last Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Garnet Far- rier. The president, Mrs. Emma Coffin presided. The minutes were read by Mrs. James McInnes in the ab- sence of secretary, Mrs. Victor Emerson. A financial statement was presented. It was agreed that the Institute would cater for the lunch counter for a SS No. 10 euchre and dance. Mrs. Bill Evans was appointed as a member from the W.I. to fill a vacancy on the Memorial Hall Board. The roll call was answered by 18 members telling what they resolved to do to increase membership. Emerson, for the Valentine boxes for shut-ins. Mrs, Russel Ross gave the motto, " The Use and Misuse of Poisons". Statistics show that children two years of age suffer the most from poison accidents. Extreme caution should be used with all fruit and vegetables in case they have been sprayed with insecticide. Mrs. Ezra Scholtz gave two old time dance tunes on the violin, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Garnet Farrier. The guest speaker, James Deneau, administrator at the Regional Welfare Office in Wingham was introduced by Mrs. Coffin. There are 17 provincial welfare offices to serve the public of Ontario. They accept applications for allowances, provide informa- tion and through the field staff give personal attention to pro- blems of individuals. Residents of a county should get in touch with the regional office cover- ing that area. The office in Wingham covers the counties of Bruce, Huron and Perth. Printed matter on old age assistance, allowances for dependent fa- thers, mothers, blind persons and disabled, assistance to widows and unmarried women and medical and health services were given to those present. Mrs. Russel Ross thanked Mr. Deneau on behalf of the W.I. and presented him with a gift. The hostesses, Mrs. Eunice Gillespie and Mrs. James Mc- Innes served lunch. RECREATION ASSOCIATION SPONSORS EUCHRE BLUEVALE-Seven tables were in play at the euchre party in the community hall sponsor- ed by the Recreational Associa- tion on Friday night. Prize winners were: Ladies high, Mrs, R.J.McMurray; second, Mrs, Alan Henderson; men's high, Alan Breckenridge; second, Lloyd Taylor; ladies low, Mrs. George HctheringtoR men's low, Keith Johnston. Little Evan Reaman met with a painful accident last week when he was kicked by a pony and had to have five stitches above the eye. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Potter, Holmesviile, were Sunday guests with Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Gibson. Name Officers, Annual Meeting WROXETER-The annual meeting of the United Church was held Friday evening with Rev. Fred W. Taylor acting as chairman, and Mrs. Vernon Hupfer as secretary. The new stewards are Harold Ridley, Ira McLean, Bruce Montgomery, William Wright. The elders are George Gibson, Harvey McMichael and Howard Wylie. Mrs. G. L. Dobson was namedto the music committee and representatives to the Bible Society are Les Douglas, James ]Doig, Harvey Timm and Mrs. Vernon Hupfer. Whitechurch News Mr. Murray Coultes of the University of Western Ontario spent the week -end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Coultes. Miss Ruth Taylor of Toronto spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor and family. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coultes and Diane were guests Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schwichtenberg of Mildmay, who were celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary. During the week -end, with the mercury below freezing, many farmers were faced with the problem of thawing frozen water pipes or with getting cars started, especially if they sat out in the open. The Y.P.S. meeting in the United Church was called off Sunday evening due to the stormy weather. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Coul- tes, Murray, Joyce, Lynda and Darlene were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Caslick and family of Culross. Congratulations to Mr. Mur- ray urray Coultes of the University of Western Ontario on again winning one of the scholarships. Mr. Barry Tiffin of Water- loo visited on Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tiffin. He was accompanied by Mr. Carl Gibb who visited with his mother, Mrs. Dave Gibb and his father, a patient in Wingham and District Hos- pital. Attending the Maitland Presbyterial Annual meeting held in Lucknow last week were Mrs. Dawson Craig, Mrs. Frank Coulter and Mrs. Earl Caslick, representing Whitechurch W.M. S. This community extends sincere sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Conley of Trenton in the passing of their five- month old son Larry in the Tren- ton Hospital, and to his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ir- win and Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Conley, of Langside vicinity.
