CORRECTION
Mrs. M, Blatch ford returned
home Saturday after spending
ten days at Christmas with her
son-in-law and daughter, Capt.
L. R. and Mrs. Eldridge and
family of Petawawa.
Last week we carried a per-
sonal stating that Mrs. Blatch-
ford was visiting with her son-
in-law and daughter, Lt. L. G.
Eldridge and Mrs. Eldridge.
Please note that we made an
error in the captain's rank and
second initial. Mrs. Blatchford
is not at all happy with our
stupidity and is concerned lest
people think the captain was
detnotcd. We hasten to assure
our readers that this is not so.
One Moment, Please
BY REV. G. C. MITCHELL
Bluevale, Ontario.
The primary belief of the
Christian faith is the resurrec-
tion of Jesus Christ from the
dead. The new curriculum
teaches this great fact. It is
the reason, as Paul says, that
we may believe in our resurrec-
tion as sons of God.
But most of us do not believe
in the resurrection of our physi-
cal bodies. Paul told the Thes-
salonians that soon their dead in
Christ would rise and all the
saved would fly up to Heaven.
But it didn't happen and we
don't expect it to happen in our
day or for many generations to
come. We expect to rise in a
spiritual body and we believe
that Jesus arose in a spiritual
body. It is Jesus who encour-
ages his followers with the pros-
pect of a Messianic banquet in
the new age, but it is the au-
thor of the Fourth Gospel and
not Jesus who says, "My king-
dom is not of this world." No
doubt the sublime hope of the
Jews and of Jesus anticipated a
wonderful new age to which the
righteous dead would arise but
this did not mean the end of
the world or dissolution of the
creation, but rather the trans -

formation of the creation.
The Christian rests his hope
for a better world on the work
of the Spirit in the church, on
the leavening influence of the
faithful in the life of the world,
on the self destruction of rival
ways of life, the self elimi-
nation of false ideologies in a
world to which they are inade-
quate, and on the irresistible
extension of the Christian faith
to all portions of the world. We
do not expect a dramatic return
of Christ in the clouds as a part
of history. He has His own way
of coming but not this way.
The New Testament announce-
ment of the coming of the Son
of Man belongs to the order of
symbolic and poetic statement
and was not understood literal-
ly in the late Jewish and early
Christian religion. All that
the race has known in the past
of disaster and tribulation, and
heartbreak, must only be pro-
logue. To this craving the
words of Jesus made answer.
The Kingdom of God is at
hand --ever at hand, and in a
degree ever within reach. Our
