Mr. Everitt Cooper of RCAF
Station, Clinton, spent the
week -end with his father, Mr.
Cecil Cooper and his mother,
in Listowel Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. George Ashton
spent the week -end in London
and Toronto and on Sunday they
celebrated their 4th wedding
anniversary.
Miss Nancy Neil spent the
week -end with friends in Kit-
chener.
Mrs. Harry Bast was able to
return home from Kitchener
Hospital, where she was con-
fined for two weeks.
Mrs. Howard Harris and son,
Jim, spent the week -end in
Guelph and visited her husband
at Homewood Sanitarium.
Little Roddy Barlow, seven-
year-old son of Mr. and Mrs.
Clifford Barlow, is confined to
Stratford General Hospital, suf-
fering from after effects of
measles. He is responding very
well to treatment.

week from Listowel Hospital.

can W.A. met for the March
meeting at the home of Mrs.
Bruce Sothern with the presiden;
Mrs. Elsie Strong presiding. A
hymn was sung followed by pray-
er.
Meditations were read by
Mrs. E. Strong, Mrs. S. Forster,
Mrs. L. Jacques, Mrs. S. Brears
Mrs. G. Anderson and Miss El-
va Foster. The roll call was
answered by eleven ladies with
a verse on Easter. Correspon-
dence and the bulletins were
read.
Mrs. Ruby Foster gave a
reading entitled "Our Purpose".

Trip to Britain
FORDW'ICH—St. Anne's
Guild met Thursday evening in
the church basement. Thepresi
dent, Mrs. William Sothern
opened the meeting. Mrs. Grace I
Browne gave a chapter in the
study book on "The Most Unfor-
gettable Character I Have Ever
Known". Reports on the junior
choir gowns, pancake supper
and The Golden Book For Char-
ity were given.
Mrs. Sothern introduced the
guest speaker, Miss Olive Bell
from Gorrie, who showed slides
and gave a most interesting
travelogue of her visit to the
British Isles last year. She was
one of four chosen from Ontar-
io to represent the Junior Farm-
ers on an exchange trip for ten
weeks. Miss Bell represented
Perth County. Mrs. Grace
Browne thanked the speaker
and presented her with a gift.
Lunch was served by the hos-
tess, Mrs. Anne Armstrong,
Mrs. Lois Simmons and Miss
Elva Foster.

Little Lauranne Sanderson is
a patient in Wingham Hospital
with pneumonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Finni-
gan returned Wednesday to their
home in Sudbury after visiting
relatives.
Mrs. Archie Miller and Mrs.
Kenneth Hastie and Mrs. Bev
Brears of Fordwich spent Satur-
day in London.
Misses Elaine Miller and
Sheila Bryce of Guelph spent the
week -end with Mr. and Mrs.
Archie Miller.
Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Ed-
gar visited Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. Doig, Molesworth.
Mrs. Tessie Zimmerman of
Fordwich spent the week -end
with her daughter, Mrs. Harry
Templeman and Mr. Temple-

Mr. Vic. Shera of Moore-
field was in the village on Sat-
urday afternoon.
QUILTING BEE
FORDWICH—The United
church basement was a beehive
of industry one day last week
when 25 women gathered there
in the morning ready to do a
full day's quilting.
Six quilts were completed
ready for the mission bale. A
pot luck dinner was prepared and
enjoyed.

The study book, "Growth in
Unity", was given by Mrs.
Lloyd Jacques. Articles for the
travelling basket were donated
by the members and sold. Cards
were signed for the sick and
shut-ins.
Mrs. G. Anderson closed the
meeting with prayer and con-
tests were conducted by Mrs. L.
Jacques. Lunch was served by
the hostess, assisted by Miss
Elva Foster.

To Presbyterial
FORDWICH--The Afternoon
Unit of Fordwich United Church
Women met in the Sunday
school rooms. Mrs. Geo. Ash-
ton convened the worship ser-
vice on the theme "Easter
Brings Hope". The meditation
was on Christ's death on the
cross; by this death He purchas-
ed our pardon. The Scripture
was read by Mrs. George Pitten-
dreigh.
A solo, "Why Did They
Treat Him So", was sung by
Mrs. Jack Wilson. A brief his-
tory of the lives of Joseph and
Mary was given by Mrs. Geo.
Ashton and a film, "Peter's
Victory", was shown with nar-
ration by Mrs. Harold Wallace,
Mrs. Jack Wilson and Mrs.
Glenn Johnston.
Mrs. Wray Cooper presided
for the business. Roll call was
answered by prayer. Delegates
chosen for the Huron Presbyter-
ial in Exeter were Mrs. Glenn
Johnston and Miss Minnie Mc-
Elwain.
The ladies quilted during the
afternoon.
People who wear glasses

180 ATTEND SUPPER
GORRIE--There was a fine
attendance on Saturday after-
noon at the St. Patrick's bazaar
and bake sale sponsored by the
W.A. of St. Stephen's Angli-
can Church. More than 180
partook of the hot supper served
from 5 to 7 p.m.
The W. A. is grateful to all
who helped make this annual
affair a success.

W.I. EUCHRE PARTY
FORDWICH--Ten tables of
progressive euchre were in play
at the Fordwich Community
Hall, sponsored by the Women's
Institute. High and low scores
were won by Mrs. John Craig,
William Taylor, Mrs. Crosby
Sothern and Ernie Dinsmore.
Mrs. Sam Johnston won the spe-
cial prize.
