SCORE IS 8-0
PeeWees Sew up Ripley Game
The Wingham Pee Wees
played Ripley Pee Wees on Sat-
urday in Ripley and came out
with an 8-0 victory. Thegame
was a little closer than the
score indicated as the score was
only 3-0 going into the third
period.
The locals had a good shoot-
ing practice in the morning and
it really paid off in the last
period.
Don Hastings was top scorer
with five goals to his credit.
Joe Kerr, Paul Templeman and
Tom Gower each scored to
complete the scoring picture.
PeeWees Defeat
4
Lucknow 5 to 3
The Wingham Pee Wees
journeyed to Lucknow last Mon-
day (Dec. 30th) to play the
Lucknow Pee Wees. The local
• stars played a very good game
as they cornered the majority
of play throughout the contest.
It was only the strong netmind-
ing of the Lucknow goal tender
that kept the score within reach.
Wingham took the lead in
• the last five minutes of play
and went on to win 5-3. Of the
number of shots taken by the
locals only about 50% hit the
net, so you can guess that they
will be working hard on Satur-
day morning.

Juveniles Win
Third of Season
Over 100 local fans saw the
Wingham Juveniles defeat the
Durham Juveniles 8-5 last Fri-
day night. Durham just could-
n't skate with the local boys
and became Wingham's third
victim of the season. •
Jim English led the Wing -
ham attack with 2 goals, and
Joe Jeffery, Ron Deyell, Martin
Garniss, Doug Campbell, Paul
Strong and Jon Bateson added
singles. Rahn scored 2 goals
for Durham; Allen, Newell and
Ersman rounded out their scor-
ing.
Referees Maurice Stainton
and George Skinn called just
three penalties, two going to
Wingham and one to Durham.

ERNIE RICHARDSON'S
CURLING
CAPSULES
Officials and players
alike were highly pleased
with the curling innova-
tions tried out at the first
Tournament of Champions
last week at Toronto Maple
Leaf Gardens. The experi-
ments were a success gen-
erally and I think they
helped sell curling to a lot
of spectators who had
never seen the game be-
fore.
It was something most
unusual to see a big curl-
ing event in the "Home of
Hockey" in Toronto, but
the success of this one
sponsored by the Toronto
Kiwanis Club and Curl -
Master Brooms Limited
could mean a Brier cham-
pionship in the future.
Of the new ideas in curl-
ing, the warmup period
allowed before each game
proved most popular with
myself and other players,
and it is an idea that might
be adopted generally for
important bonspiels.
Juves Now Have
Four Straight
The Wingham Juveniles ex-
tended their winning streak to
four straight games as they de-
feated Walkerton 5-3 on Mon-
day night in Walkerton.
Goal tending was the high-
light of the game as Lynne
Hickey stopped shot after shot
from close range. Jim English,
Ron Deyell, Paul Strong, Doug
Hall and Wayne Maslen scored
for Wingham.
The juveniles' next three
games are on the road. They
play in Wingham again on Wed-
nesday, January 15th against
Walkerton and Friday, January
17th against Lucknow. These
promise to be exciting games.
Don't miss them.
TwoTeams
Lose Games
The Bantam "B" team play-
ed two games during the week
and lost both.
In Kincardine on Friday
night the score was 4-1 and the
score for Walkerton on Monday
was 5-2.
The Wingham Midgets also
suffered a defeat when they
met Durham on Friday. The
score was 7-3.

JOAN CAULFIELD
JANUARY 13-14-15
"CATTLE KING"
IN COLOUR
This is a large scale Western with plenty of action and a show -down climax packed
with plenty of punch.
It proved especially good
to loosen up before having
to do strenuous sweeping
on the very first end. The
players also found it valu-
able to get the kinks out
before having to play im-
portant shots on the first
end.
Because no two sheets
of ice work the same and
warmups are on a sheet
other than the one on
which you play your game,
there is no advantage to
any individual rink.
TIME PROBLEM
It might be difficult to
allow such warmup time
where three and four draws
a day are necessary, but
even in these cases the
warmup time could be cut
to five minutes instead of
the 10 or 12 minutes allow-
ed in the Tournament of
Champions.
Dominion Curling offi-
cials have discussed this
plan and many of them
like it. Perhaps it will be
adopted in the future.
The players also liked
the idea of playing a stone
by each lead to determine
which team would have the
choice of last stone on the
first end instead of tossing
a coin to decide. The toss
of a coin is still necessary
to decide which lead will
play first, but since the
stones are measured and
removed this has little
bearing on the plan.
BOTH ENDS
Another innovation was
playing two of the four
games to finish at opposite
ends of the rink so that
spectators at both ends
would ha v e an equal
chance for a close-up view
of exciting finishes. This
is not necessary, however.
in private clubs where all
viewing is from behind the
glass at one end.
These two ideas have not
been considered by DCA
officials and are not likely
to become regularly used
in bonspiels.
Strict observance of the
sliding rule by all players
impressed both officials
and spectators in the Tour-
nament of Champions. All
teams watched this very
carefully and I don't think
it bothered any of the
players.
Although the ice was
swingy and tricky and
rather slow in the early
matches, it did not in any
way detract from the inter-
est of the competition in a
fine tournament.
Ernie demonstrates fine form in his slide and
follow through, keeping well within the sliding rule.
Bridge Results
With the migration South of
several of our members, there
were only nine pairs competing
on Thursday evening. The
Howell system was used with
the following results. 1. C.
Hodgins, Wm. Laidlaw; 2. Mr.
and Mrs. Joe Martin; 3. H.
Crawford, O. Haselgrove.
