GOD'S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
Text; "But when the fulness
of the time was come, God sent
forth His son," Galatians 4:4.
There will be many mess-
ages this Christmas. Christmas
is a time for exchanging greet-
ings and for writing that once -
a -year note to distant friends
and relatives. In a sense, all of
Christmas is a message..
Christmas is a message from
God to man. God has spoken
finally and authoritatively in
the Lord Jesus Christ. God com-
municated to man in the fullest
way possible by becoming man,
The Lord of Glory became one
of us.
Who is He in yonder stall,
At whose feet the shepherds fall?
'Tis the Lord! oh wondrous
story!
'Tis the Lord! the King of
Glory!
M His feet we humbly fall
Crown Him! crown Him, Lord
of all!
This is God's message to us
at Christmas. But this is not the
end of it. The Christmas mes-
sage, the Incarnation of Jesus
Christ, is more than a fact of
history; it is more than a theo-
logical formula; it is a personal
message to you and to me.
God did not speak merely to
establish the fact that He could
become man. The unique and
thrilling thing about this par-
ticular event in history, and
about God's message on that
first Christmas Day, is that it is
a message by which men can be
saved.
God's Christmas message is
not just an announcement or a
greeting; it is a message that
demands obedience and faith
such as is not demanded by any
other fact or person of history.
"Hear ye Him," is the word of
God that accompanies the
Christmas message.
The thoughts of millions of
people will be about religion
during the Christmas season.
But this is not the real question.
The real issue is life. God's
message in Jesus Christ is in-
tended to bring life. Men who
are dead in trespasses and sin
can be made alive in Jesus
Christ. This is the purpose of
God's Christmas message to
you: new life in Jesus Christ.
People who have received
life by faith in the Lord Jesus
can receive new gladness this
Christmas by bearing the mes-
sage of God and His love in
Christ. This will produce real
gladness at Christmas.
It is a time to examine our
own hearts; it is a time to pro-
claim God's message. It is a
time to rejoice; it is a time to
cleave unto the Lord with stead-
fast purpose.
I have a Christmas wish for you
today,
A merry Christmas, glad and
gay,
And also, may you truly know
That Jesus' love makes hearts
aglow.
December 25 was a feast day
in the calendar of the Romans
long before the birth of Christ,
...and many thanks to all you wonderful' peoplie whose
friendship has been so heartwarming during the year.

Reeve F. L. Davidson hasnot
only a good drilling outfit but
one that must be charmed as he
has successfully drilled two oil
wells recently. Three weeks
ago we reported that he had
drilled a well that is a good
producer of oil. To add to this
success he finished drilling an-
other well on Saturday that ap-
pears at present to be just as
good as the other one. The
wells were drilled near Watford

Wading through the snow
to the garage this morning,
climbing t .h e snowbank
thrown up by the plow, and
picking up my shovel to
commence a typical Cana-
dian winter day, I couldn't
help feeling sorry for poor
old George Cadogan and
wife, Elda, who are winter-
ing in Spain. The cowards!
Newspaper people who
are taking a year off to
write, they are settled on
tha island of Mallorca in
the Mediterranean, with
two cats, a dog and
daughter Kathie, 14,
Anyway, as 1 took a deep
breath of that crunchy
polar air, and started
coughing, my heart went
out to them. Here I was, a
virile man of the true
north, red blood pumping
in practically every vein,
nose running freely, heart
thumping sporadically,
battling the elements to
begin another day's hunt
for meat for my little
family.
And where was George?
At that very moment, he
was strolling indolently
down the hill in Palma de
Mallorca, on his way to the
bakeshop to buy some of
those crusty little rolls, hot
from the oven, and take
them back to the apart-
ment where he and Elda
would sit on their balcony,
in their shorts, and have
breakfast, looking at that
same old monotonous
scene — the Mediterranean
sparkling in the sun.
* * *
And as I thought of this,
I was so overcome by pity
for them that I started to
cry. At least, I think that's
what made me commence
weeping. At any rate, I
was still sobbing when I
got into the car and found
it wouldn't start.
Think of what they miss!
There's the happy family
jaunt to the Christmas tree
lot, and the delightful.
democratic choosing of the
tree:
"T h a t one's scraggly.
This one's bushy at the bot-
tom but skinny at the top.
I Iike spruee. No, we're
getting a Scotch pine. Too
big. Too small. Too much
money."
And who'd want to be in
Mallorca on Christmas Day?
Nothing to look at but palm
trees and blue sky and gold-
en sand and blue sea. No
crackle of flames in fire-
place.
No Boxing Day rabbit
hunts or calls on friends for
eggnog by the fire. No ski-
ing, skating, sliding. No
rosy cheeks, no left -over
turkey. peel a pang for the
Cadogans. Just sitting
there, in their short s,
watching that lousy Medi-
terranean.
And look at the fun they
miss on New Year's Eve.
No first-footing it through
the drifts for a drink. No
losing your overshoes at
the party. No catching hell
on the way home from your
wife, for kissing all the
other wives at midnight,
The Cadogans probably
just sit around on New
Year's Eve in a Spanish
cafe, drinking wine with a
lot of other lucky dev —
uh, lonely souls, listening
to a flamenco singer trying
to cope with Auld Lang
Syne!
No, 1 wouldn't mind join-
ing the Cadogans in Paris
in the spring. Or Ronne in.
the fall. But nothing could
force me to miss the brisk
joys of winter and the
holiday season in the true
north, strong and freezing.
Nothing, that is, except
enough money to get out
of it!
