No Goals for Wingham
Lots of Penalties
The Minor Hockey season
opened last Friday night in the
Wingham arena with a double-
header. The first game featur-
ed the Walkerton and Wingham
Midget clubs (age 14-16).
The first two periods were
reasonably close, with Walker-
ton going into the third period
owning a 4-0 lead. The third
period saw eleven unanswered
Walkerton goals and fifteen
penalties, ten of them to Wing -
ham. The old saying "You
can't play hockey in the penal-
ty box" was illustrated with a
vengeance during that final
twenty minutes of "hockey" .
Team captain Doug Brind-
ley led the Walkerton team
with 5 goals and 4 assists. Tom
Hughes, 4 goals and 2 assists;
Joe O'Hagan potted 2 goals and
picked up one assist; as did Pat
Moran. Long had a goal, and
2 assists. The other goal was
scored by Thompson.
Walkerton penalties: Joe
O'Hagan (elbowing, roughing);
Long (elbowing and crosscheck-
ing); Terry Moran, slashing;
Pat Moran, elbowing; Tom
Hugheshigh-sticking; and Doug
Brindley, roughing.
Kerr led the Wingham par-
ade to the penalty box, draw-
ing minors for interference,
holding and crosschecking.
Mitchell (tripping, high stick-
ing); Whitfield (no helmet,
throwing stick); Fleury (tripping
elbowing); Deyell (high stick-
ing); Griffith (roughing); Dau-
phin (slashing).
The scheduled Monday night
game in Hanover was postponed.
The Midgets were scheduled to
play last night (Wednesday), a
postponed game against Kin-
cardine and they are to travel
to Kincardine next Monday
Dec. 23rd for an 8.30 game.
