About an hour later Mr, Majury suffered pain and became ill. He was taken to Paisley for medical attention and from there rushed to the Owen Sound General and Marine Hospital where an emergency operation was performed for acute hernia. He is recovering as well as can be expected, Mr. and Mrs, Majury Sr. were to be presented the same evening as they are moving to Paisley but he became ill be- fore the presentation was made. Mrs. Lawson Majury is a sis- ter to Mrs. Albert Coultes, They have made many friends on their visits here, all of whom wish Mr. Majury a spee- dy recovery. Next to excellence is the appreciation of it. Recent guests at the former home were Mrs. Clara Colmer, Toronto and Mr. and Mrs.Mere- dith Kuhns of Port Credit; also Pioneer Girls Have Birthday This week is Pioneer Girls' Week, marking the formation of the organization in the fall of 1941 to answer the demands of girls in a small suburb of Chicago for a Christian pro- gram. In Canada there are now 11, 000 girls being reached through the Pioneer Girls' pro- gram. There are groups in all the provinces. The goal is to reach young girls and help them develop spiritually and in all phases of their lives, becoming useful persons in the homes, churches and communities, In Wingham, Pioneer Girls is sponsored by the Baptist Church but it is an interdeno- minational organization, There are three divisions here, The Pilgrims, The Colonists and The Explorers. The three groups take in girls ages 8 to 18. Butter Industry Banquet Held Over 200 people represent- ing creamery industry personnel and their wives from the Grey, Bruce, Wellington and Huron areas held their annual Butter Industry banquet at the Legion Hall, Walkerton on Wednesday evening. Guests were present repre- senting the Ontario Dairy Branch, the Federal Dairy Branch, the Ontario Creamerymen's As- sociation and the Ontario Cream Producers' Association. An important function of the banquet was the awarding of prizes to winners of cream and butter judging competitions held throughout the year. Included in the list of win- ners were Ray Ilaldenby, Silver - woods Ltd., Lucknow, third in the category for any single but- ter grading competition(novice). Grant Boshart, Blyth, was fourth in the same contest. WROXETER Mr. and Mrs. Aylmer Hart, Brussels, and Mrs. Alonzo Spar - ling spent Sunday at the home of Mr, John Iiupfer. Strong returned Friday after spending a week at Halifax, N. S. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Elliott, Molesworth, visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. George Brown. Mrs. Thos. McMichael, Wing - ham, and Mrs. Ken. Jackson, Belmore called at the same home on Saturday. Syrripathy is extended to Mrs. Clifford Pyke in the loss of her father, Mr, Victor Stockton of Clifford. Mr. :and Mrs. Alex. Graham spent last week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Huctwith of Sudbury, and other friends. The Gorrie Women's Insti- tute is holding a short course on desserts, dealing with the nu- tritional values of milk, eggs etc. Mrs. Robert Elschner and Mrs. Raymond Gowdy are the leaders. The summary day for this will be held in Wingham Presbyterian Church on Dec. 3 at 1.30 p.m. The Institute is having a euchre party in the Community Hall on Nov. 25. David Beecroft Conducts Hi -C BELGRAVE-The regular meeting of the Hi -C group met on Sunday in the church school room. Ruth Michie led in a sing -song accompanied by Lorne Campbell. Donna Gras - by read the secretary's report. The treasurer's report was given by Jim Taylor. David Beecroft was in charge of the meeting with the theme on Prejudice. Two skits were presented on the theme, Wendy Fear, Marjorie Hopper and Jim Taylor took part in the first skit and Jim Taylor, Brian Hopper and Hugh McBurney took part in the second. They then divided into two groups for discussion. Worship service led by Donna Grasby, who opened with the call to worship followed a hymn. Scripture was read fol- lowed by meditation andprayer, Lloyd Michie and Brian Hopper received the offering. "My Faith Looks up to Thee" was sung and the benediction pronounced. Jim Taylor con- ducted a contest. The next meeting will be held on De- cember 1st,' Euchre Winners BELGRAVE-The weekly euchre was held in the com- munity centre on Wednesday with eight tables in play. Prizes went to: High lady, Mrs. Earl Noble; low lady, Mrs. J. M. Coultes; novelty lady, Mrs. Herson Irwin; high man, George Johnston; novelty man, George Jordon; low man, Mark Armstrong. WENT TO THE DEVIL One of the most famous Eng- lish taverns of Elizabethan days was The Devil, located near Temple Bar on Fleet Street in London.
