Tours Niagara
GORRIE—Thirty-eight mem-
bers of the Gorrie Women's In-
stitute and their friends had a
very interesting trip to Niagara
on Monday. They toured
Queenston Heights. Some en-
joyed the view from the top of
Brock's Monument.
The floral clock was ad-
mired by all. A tour of the
Adarn Beck Generating Station
No. 2, was most educational.
The ladies enjoyed a visit to
the School of Horticulture,
The flowers were very beauti-
ful. The rest of the day was
spent at Victoria Park and the
Wax Museums were popular
with the ladies,
The bus remained till the
illumation of the Falls had been
enjoyed. Everyone agreed it
was a splendid trip.

two pre congress meetings in
London the previous week.

Mrs, Hartwell Strong, Septem-

Howich Council
Makes Request To Ontario Hydro
AU members of Howick
Township Council were present
for the regular meeting August
6, with Reeve Ivan Haskins pre-
siding.
It was moved that council
request Ontario Hydro, on be-
half of the Wroxeter Police
Trustees, to replace fifteen of
the present street lights with ten
fluorescent lights,
The clerk, W, E. Whitfield,
was instructed to prepare the
necessary by-law for putting
load limits on bridges recom-
mended by the Dept. of High-
ways bridge office.

Hill School, on Sunday after-

Orange memorial and decora-
tion service was held in the
Gorrie cemetery on Sunday
afternoon. The Rev. G. A.
Anderson of Gorrie was the
guest speaker.
Flowers were placed on the
mound in memory of departed
sisters and brother's. Rev, F.
W. Taylor pronounced the bene-
diction,
Ruttan Reunion
Held on Sunday
GORRIE--The Ruttan reunion
was held Sunday in the Turn -
berry Township Park with 34
attending. Mrs, Nellie Scott,
Brussels, whose 87th birthday
was on Sunday, was surprised
with a beautiful decorated cake
and a gift,

Brussels, Bluevale, Listowel,
Lucknow and Gorrie.

back for the occasion from
widely scattered points, Rich-
mond, Virginia, Toronto, Lon-
don, Kitchener, Simco, Hunts-
ville,. Palmerston, Clifford,
Bluevale and Brussels. The
afternoon was spent in renewing
old friendships and visiting. A
bounteous lunch was served.
The school was closed in
June and all pupils in Howick
Township will attend the new
Township Area School on High-
way 87, in September.
The school was built in 1893,
The late Thomas Shearer, fa-
ther of Miss Beatrice and Mr,
Torn Shearer, was a teacher
for 14-1/2 years. He taught
first in the old school and was
the first teacher in the new
