Miss Maly Mock, Guelph and Mr. Thos. Hastie spent the week -end with Mr, and Mrs. Kenneth Hastie. Mr. and Mrs. Glad Edgar and Mrs. Bertha Plant attended the Decoration service at the Molesworth Cemetery on Sun- day. Misses Darlene Simpson and Carol Dinsmore have returned home from Wingham Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Fydell and Fred, Ottawa, Mrs. Mend - ley and Bob of Guelph, called on Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Gal- braith. Mr. and Mrs. T. L. McIn- nes have returned home from a trip to Scotsguard, Swift Cur- rent, Moosejaw and Regina, Sask. They also attended the 50th Golden Jubilee at Shauna - von, Sask. Edward McMillan is spending a week at the home of Sgt. and Mrs. Glen Austin of Oakville. Mr, and Mrs, Blake Mc- Millan and Sharon attended the C. N. E. on Monday. Miss Judy Galbraith spent the week at Port Elgin, Mr. and Mrs. Elgin McInnes Jimmy, Tommy and Billy of Dunbarton visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Thos, Mc- Innes, Miss Sheila Burrell and Miss Judy Lightfoot of Strathroy spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs, Ed, Bolander. Mr, and Mrs. Edgar Dane, Mr. and Mrs, Wellesly Strong attended the Hasnoot-Exel wedding in the Christian Re- formed Church in Listowel. Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Gowdy and Janna spent the week -end at Mr. and Mrs, El- mer Merkley, Georgetown. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gowdy visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Halliday of Wing - ham, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dowdall, Toronto, visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hyndman. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Victoria and Grey Trust Company OWEN SOUND, ONTARIO Women's Institute Tours Niagara GORRIE—Thirty-eight mem- bers of the Gorrie Women's In- stitute and their friends had a very interesting trip to Niagara on Monday. They toured Queenston Heights. Some en- joyed the view from the top of Brock's Monument. The floral clock was ad- mired by all. A tour of the Adarn Beck Generating Station No. 2, was most educational. The ladies enjoyed a visit to the School of Horticulture, The flowers were very beauti- ful. The rest of the day was spent at Victoria Park and the Wax Museums were popular with the ladies, The bus remained till the illumation of the Falls had been enjoyed. Everyone agreed it was a splendid trip. Gorrie Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Diebel, Mr, and Mrs, Harvey Diebelof Guelph were Sunday guests of Mr, and Mrs, Chas. Koch. Mrs. E, C. Attwell, David, Mary and Ruth Anne of Ottawa are visiting a few days with friends, Rev. and Mrs, Geo. A. An, Berson and Ken were in Toronto Sunday evening for the meeting of the Anglican Congress in Maple Leaf Gardens. Mr, and Mrs, Anderson also attended two pre congress meetings in London the previous week. Mr.. and Mrs. D. W. Dane, Toronto, spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs, Norman Wade. Howich Council Makes Request To Ontario Hydro AU members of Howick Township Council were present for the regular meeting August 6, with Reeve Ivan Haskins pre- siding. It was moved that council request Ontario Hydro, on be- half of the Wroxeter Police Trustees, to replace fifteen of the present street lights with ten fluorescent lights, The clerk, W, E. Whitfield, was instructed to prepare the necessary by-law for putting load limits on bridges recom- mended by the Dept. of High- ways bridge office. No. 5, Howick, known as the Orange Hill School, on Sunday after- noon, August 4th. Nine former teachers attend- ed, Mrs. Dick Watters ofFord- ORANGE LODGE MEMORIAL SERVICE GORRIE-- The annual Howick Orange memorial and decora- tion service was held in the Gorrie cemetery on Sunday afternoon. The Rev. G. A. Anderson of Gorrie was the guest speaker. Flowers were placed on the mound in memory of departed sisters and brother's. Rev, F. W. Taylor pronounced the bene- diction, Ruttan Reunion Held on Sunday GORRIE--The Ruttan reunion was held Sunday in the Turn - berry Township Park with 34 attending. Mrs, Nellie Scott, Brussels, whose 87th birthday was on Sunday, was surprised with a beautiful decorated cake and a gift, Those present were from Hensall, London, Toronto, Brussels, Bluevale, Listowel, Lucknow and Gorrie. Many former pupils carne back for the occasion from widely scattered points, Rich- mond, Virginia, Toronto, Lon- don, Kitchener, Simco, Hunts- ville,. Palmerston, Clifford, Bluevale and Brussels. The afternoon was spent in renewing old friendships and visiting. A bounteous lunch was served. The school was closed in June and all pupils in Howick Township will attend the new Township Area School on High- way 87, in September. The school was built in 1893, The late Thomas Shearer, fa- ther of Miss Beatrice and Mr, Torn Shearer, was a teacher for 14-1/2 years.
