He is here to write a feature story on the activities of the Wingham Corps, which has been an extremely active one and whose services in wel- fare and spiritual affairs have been constantly growing. The Salvation Arty Publi- cations in Canada comprises four magazines, The War Cry, which is perhaps the best known to the general public, The Young Soldier, The Crest and The Home Leaguer. The latter is the publication for the Home League, comparable to Women's Associations in other churches. Lieut. -Col. Wood's story on the Wingham Corps will be fea- tured in The War Cry in the near future. Interesting Book Recounts History The architecture of pioneer buildings and trips through Perth and Huron are the subject of an historical booklet publish- ed recently by British Mortgage & Trust Company. "Paths of History in Perth and Huron" has been produced in story and pic- ture form, drawn and recorded by John Martin, A. R. C. A. , O, S, A, , and arranged and written by Anthony L, Kearsley, B.A., F.R.Met.S. In both pictures and story, the book illustrates the fact that early buildings were of high architectural standards as their builders used the exemp- lary drawings and styles of Batty Langley. His system of Gothic orders is followed in many Perth -Huron buildings. Using materials available at the time, pioneer settlers constructed buildings that show evidence of trained workman- ship and excellent proportion, at the same time accommodat- ing themselves to the rigours of pioneer life. John Martin has for many years been recognized as an Wingham Advance -Times, Thursday, August 22, 1963 Page 1 expert in .architectural paint- ings and has been commission- ed to record a number of out- standing Canadian buildings, Anthony Kearsley, a well* known Stratford writer, is head of the English department of Northwestern Secondary School,. Stratford, Included in his writing career are regular as- signments for The Times, Lon- don, England, The booklet is the story of an era which is quickly passing.
