Many in this district doubted
the value of their corn crops
after Monday's storm of wind,
large hailstones and heavy rain,
The leaves were hanging in

of Holland, Mich, , spent the
week -end at the Presbyterian
manse, the home of her sister,
Mrs. Jacob Kuiper and Mr.
Kuiper, Rev, and Mrs, John

of the Reformed Church, Tor-
onto, spent Sunday at the
manse with Mr. and Mrs, Kui-
per,
Mrs. Edith Warner of Gull
Lake, Sask„ is visiting with
relatives and former acquaint-
ances in Kinloss, Mrs, War-
ner's parents were the late Mr.
and Mrs, Ephraim Taylor, and
lived in Kinloss near Tiffin's
church. Mrs. Warner is spend-
ing six weeks in this district
with Tiffin relatives and also
with Mr, and Mrs. Perry Pen-
nington of Culross.
Mr. and Mrs, John Murray
and children of Sharon, North
of Toronto, are spending a few
days this week with Mr, and
Mrs. Chas. Tiffin of Kinloss.
Mrs, Wesley Twamley of
Woodstock spent last week at
the home of her brother, Mr.
Russell Ritchie and Mr. and
Mrs. Chas. King of Detriot
spent the week -end at the
Ritchie home.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Walk-
er visited last Tuesday with
Mr, and Mrs. Edmund Irwin of
Goderich and Mr. and Mrs.
Melvin Rome of Teeswater
visited on Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Walker.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Robin-
son and Jimmie, Tom and Bill-
ie, were in Toronto on Thurs-
day to attend the funeral of her
father, the late Tupper Perdue
Cunnington in Forest Lawn
Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart
Coupland of Toronto spent the
week -end at the Robinson home
here, and with Wroxeter rela-
tives.
Mr, and Mrs. Lorne Scott
visited on Sunday at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Robb
of Amberley,
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Pattison,
Doreen and Donald, and their
niece, Barbara Pattison, spent
Sunday with Mr, and Mrs,
Several Mishaps,
None Serious
WHITECHURCH—Several
accidents occurred in this dist-
rict last week, all of which
could have had serious results.
The only mishap with in-
jury reported was to Lloyd
Philips, who slipped while
climbing a ladder when working
on a barn roof. Mr. Phillips
fell down five rungs before he
was able to catch hold again.
He injured his shoulder.
Kenneth Mason turned his
tractor and wagon over when
working in the field one day
last week.
John Rinn's tractor suddenly
caught fire while he was pull-
ing a load of hay at the farm
of Keith Rock. The battery
cables were quickly pulled off
and the flames extinguished.

Mrs. Edna Barr of London
and Miss Btidgetta O'Malley of
Sarnia Hospital staff, visited
on the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Thos, O'Malley.
Mr, and Mrs. Allan Pattison
visited on Sunday at the home
of Mr, and Mrs, Alvin Arm-
strong of Brussels,
Mr, and Mrs, Russell Dick
of Toronto spent the week -end
with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Me -
/mils and with their mother,
Mrs. Roane, a patient in Wing -
ham Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Glen McDon-
ald of London spent the week-
end with her parents, Mr, and
Mrs, Harold Gaunt of W.
Wawanosh,
Miss Agatha Coultes, Reg,
N, , who has spent the past six
months at Fulton, Missouri,
taking a rehabilitation and
mental health course, was
accompanied home by Mr.
Chas. Kaasa of Missouri. Miss
Coultes will holiday with rel-
atives here, before going to
nurse in a Toronto Hospital.
Mr. Chas. MacKay of Dunn-
ville ,and his daughter, Mrs. J.
Pierson of Niagara, visited on
the week -end with Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon MacKay, Wing -
ham. Mrs. MacKay accomp-
anied them on Sunday when
they visited with Mrs. Cecil
Falconer and with Mr. and
Mrs, A. E. Purdon of Lucknow.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Maclntyre,
Wingham, also visited with
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.
E. Purdon on Sunday at Luck -
now.

Enjoy Trip To
Maritimes
WHITECHURCH--Mr, and
Mrs, Gershom Johnston, who
motored two weeks ago with
their son-in-law, daughter and
granddaughter, Mr, and Mrs,
Stewart Smith and Diana of
Kitchener to Nova Scotia, re-
turned home on Thursday,
They went to Buffalo and
then on to Bar Harbour, where
they took the six hour ferry
trip to Yarmouth, N.S. At
Yarmouth they visited with
Mr, and Mrs. Johnston's grand-
son, Mr. and Mrs. Donald
Smith,
They enjoyed the beautiful
countryside and trips by ferry
as they toured Nova Scotia,
Prince Edward Island and New
Brunswick, and home by way
of Montreal. They visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth
Johnston at Clinton on Sunday,
Historians tell us about the
past and economists about the
future so all we have to worry
about is the present.
Wet Weather
For Scout Camp
WHITECHURCH.-The Scouts
and Cubs of the district, who
spent a few days last week at
Camp at Inverhuron report a
good time and good weather
except for Friday night for the
Scouts, when the grounds were
flooded and it was everybody
up and move out of the water
to the pavilion, All were
thankful for the lights that were
lit all night.
Among the Scouts and Cubs
that took in this outing from
E. Wawanosh were Neil Bie-
man, Jimmie Beecroft, Gary
and Brian Jamieson, Ronald
McBurney, Jim Robertson, Grant
Coultes, Jack Marks, Duane
Currie, Gary MacSween, Don-
ald and Douglas Walker,
Murray, Donald, Neil and
Grant Vincent, Ivan Wheeler,
Donald, David and Clayton
Bosman, Leonard Robinson,
There were 21 Scouts with
their leaders, George Procter
and John Nixon and 26 Cubs
with their leaders.
Storm Damage In District
WHITECHURCH—Trans-
formers at the homes of Nelson
Dow and George McGee were
knocked out on Wednesday
night of last week, when the
short but severe electrical
storm passed over the commun-
ity.
A steer was injured by light-
ning at the farm of William
Purdon and light bulbs burned
St, Marie and children and Mr.
Douglas Simpson, were among
those from here who took in
the meeting of the Waterloo
Breeders Association at Water-
loo, last Wednesday evening.
Mrs. A. Dowling spent the
out at the home of Keith Rock.
It has also been reported
that the big elm tree on the
corner of Robert Arbuckle's
farm on No. 4 Highway was
split by a bolt of lightning in
the same storm, and had to be
taken down.
