Wawanosh friends will be interested to know that Dr. and Mrs. Wilfred Robinson of Dryden, who attended the medical convention held in Toronto, visited one day re- cently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Wheeler of Blyth. Mrs. John Kilpatrick of Arkona also spent a few days at the Wheeler home. Mr. George Naylor of Thomp- son, Manitoba, is visiting this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Naylor. Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coul- tes and Diane, and Beverley Soloman visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Schwich- tenberg of Port Elgin, Mr. Coultes is busy this week super- vising the cement work at the new arena at Belgrave. Mrs. Albert Coultes reports that she has a lupin plant that has twenty-two spikes of deep pink flowers. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Hack- ett and children of Ashfield visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coultes, of Bel - grave. A farmer in this district who was working in his bush, left a gallon can half-filled with oil in the bush. When he returned some days later the can was gone and when they hunted for it they found it shot full of holes and thrown behind a stump. How's that for a friend- ly trick? Mrs. Armstrong Wilson of Lucknow and Mrs. Victor Emer- son leave on Tuesday to attend the Ontario Conference of the secretary -treasurers of the Wo- men's Institute in Guelph on June 19 and 20. Mrs. Irene Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Montgomery of Toronto spent the week -end with her brother, Mr. Chas. Taylor and with their mother, Mrs. Wm. Taylor of Walkerton, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Caslick visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Gordon Scott of Ripley, Mr. and Mrs. George Stan- ley and children of Lucknow visited on Sunday with her par- ents, Mr, and Mrs. Jas. McIn- nis. Mrs. Victor Young of Wing - ham spent the week -end at the home of her brother, Mr, Adam McBurney. Mr. Jas. St. Marie of Kitch- ener is visiting for a few days this week with Mr. and Mrs. Myles St. Marie. Mr. Jas. Snowden returned home recently from Wingham Hospital. Mrs. Ethel Stewart, Wing - ham, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Dan Tiffin. Miss Claire Chamney of Tor- onto spent the week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clar- ence Chamney. Traffic was directed over the new bridge at Zetland on Mon- day. Mr. and Mrs. Pedersen of Lucan spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Karl Pedersen. Mr. and Mrs. J. D. UCW to Hold Hobo Teas DONNYBROOK --The June meeting of the U, C, W. of Donnybrook United Church was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. John Hildebrand, with a good attendance. The theme was given by Mrs. Ray Hanna, who had charge of the program. "The Church's One Foundation" was sung and Mrs. Margaret Leddy read the Scrip- ture lesson. The offering was received and following another hymn, Mrs, Hanna gave a reading, "Difference of Skin". Mrs, Tom Armstrong led in prayer and all joined in repeating the Lord's prayer. Mrs. Hanna gave another reading. Mrs. William Hardy read the chap- ter in the study book. Mrs. Stuart Chamney read the minutes of the previous meeting. Mrs. Sam Thompson had charge of the business. It was decided to accept the invi- tation from Westfield, June 12 at 8:30 p.m.; Calvin -Brick, June 18 at 8:30 p.m. and St. Helens June 25 at 2:30 p.m. Plans were made to have hobo teas in the next three weeks. Mrs. John Hildebrand gave a reading, "Making quilts". A hymn was sung and Mrs. Hanna closed the meeting with prayer. Lunch was served by the hostess assisted by Mrs. Margaret Leddy and Mrs. Edward Robin- son. Gordon Fish, Wingham, gave a humorous address, and Mrs. Emerson gave several readings. Mr. and Mrs. Hill were present- ed resented with a wallet and a gift of money. On Sunday evening Rev. Hill attended the service in the Langside Church where the junior choir from the Lucknow Presbyterian Church assisted with the music. The congrega- tion held a social gathering following the service and pre- sented Mr. Hill with an occas- ional chair, and Mrs. Hill with a pretty cup and saucer. Rev. and Mrs. Hill thanked their people for their kindness and remembrance and all enjoyed the social half hour. ATTEND WEDDING WHITECHURCH—Mr. and Mrs. Ewart McPherson and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rintoul were at Mitchell on Saturday, where they attended the marriage of Miss Ruth Elaine Pridham, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W.H. Pridham of Mitchell and Ronald James Reid, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Reid of Mitchell, in the United Church there. They also attended the wedding din- ner for 110 guests in the S.S. room of the church. Mrs. G. Wright, UCW Hostess LAKELET--The June meeting of McIntosh U. C. W, was held on Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Gordon Wright. Mrs. Ivan Haskins was in charge of the devotions the theme of which was on Pente- cost. President Mrs. Jack Fer- guson conducted the business. Twenty-three ladies answered the roll call with "A father of the Bible and why he is men- tioned" . It was decided to meet at the home of Mrs. El- don Renwick on June 26 to pack a bale and make further arrange- ments for the centennial. The treasurer's report was given. Reports were given by' the chairman of supply, social assistance and quilting com- mittee's. Mrs. Bert Wylie dis- cussed plans for the cold meat supper. For the study program, Mrs. Robert Harkness read "Objec- tions" from "The Word and The Way", with Mrs. Leslie Hark- ness reading portions of Scrip- ture. Congratulations to Sharon Jefferson, Barbara Purdon and Sheila McQuillin, who have successfully completed Grade 10 en their year's work. Sandy McQuillin completed Grade 9 on his year's work. Mr. Colin McDonald is seri- ously ill in Wingham Hospital. Mr. Wm. Robb is convalsc- ing at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Les, Wardell, Ripley. Mr. and Mrs, Alex Nolan of Regina, Sask., were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Al- lan Miller. Mr, and Mrs. George Esplen and Mrs. Esplen, Sr., of Port Elgin, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Frank McWhinney and family. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Miller and Larry of London were week- end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Chrester Taylor. BIRTH McPHERSON—To Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McPherson in Victoria Hospital, London, on June 13, 1963, a son. Colin McDonald Last Member of Pioneer Family Colin McDonald of St. Hel- ens passed away on Sunday in Wingham and District Hospital in his 84th year, after a short illness, His wife predeceased him about five years ago andhe is the last member of the pio- neer family of Hugh McDonald and Catherine Cameron, who took up residence on the 10th Concession of West Wawanosh many years ago. He leaves a family of six sons, Charles, Norman and Gord- on, with whom he resided, all of West Wawanosh, Earl of London, Harvey of Toronto and Marvin of Mitchell, and three daughters Mrs. Eldon (Dorothy) Miller of Lucknow, Mrs. John (Helen) Nicholson and Mrs. Chester (Verna) Nicholson, both of Belfast. Interment was in Dungannon Cemetery on Wednesday from the Johnson funeral home, Luck- now. ucknow. Mrs. Donald McDonald of Whitechurch is a sister-in-law of the late Mr. McDonald and returned home from Arkona on Tuesday, where she was visit- ing her daughter, Mrs. Mac - Charles.
