Gaunt, home from the hospital. Mrs. Walter Lott has been a patient in Wingham Hospital over the week -end. Mrs. George Kennedy, tea- cher at Fordyce School, is tak- ing her pupils and many of the mothers on a bus trip to Nia- gara Falls on Friday. Mr. and Mrs. GershomJohn- ston and George Grigg visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Smith of Kitchener. Miss Brinley of S. S, No. 9 E. Wawanosh is taking her pu- pils and some of the parents on a bus trip this Wednesday to London. Mrs. John Haggitt of Brussels is visiting this week with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Emerson and with Miss Lila Emerson. Mr. and Mrs. David John- ston, who visited with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Ritchie, left on Wednesday for their home at Trail, B. C. Mr. and Mrs. Allan Mac - Charles and family of Arkona visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Angus McDonald of St. Helens, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John MacCharles of Lucknow, and at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. McDonald. Their mother, Mrs. Donald Mc- Donald, accompanied them home to Arkona. Mr. and Mrs. Fleming John- ston and daughters of Bluevale and Mr. Kenneth Mason, visit- ed on Sunday last with their mother, Mrs. John Mason at the home of Mt. and Mrs, John Rea of Port Crcda. Thomp- son of Goderich, and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Thompson and family of Tillsonburg spent the week- end at°Goderich and attended the sale of the estate of her fa- ther, the late Mr. Bain McDon- ald, at Kintail on Saturday. Mrs. Victor Emerson, with Mrs. Harvey Houston and Mrs. McCosh, attended the Grey - Bruce Area Board meeting at Meaford on Tuesday. Dr. Inez McDonald of Mark- ham visited on Saturday with Mrs. Mary Chapman Sr. Dr. McDonald, through a childhood illness, was riot able to get around as other children and be- came interested in her father's profession and became a medi- cal doctor and an eye special- ist. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Ecken- swiller and Miss Jane Eckenswil- ler of Mount Forest visited on Sunday with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eckenswiller. Regular Meeting WHITECHURCH- The June meeting of the Women's Insti- tute was held on Wednesdayeve- ning last, with the president, Mrs. Claude Coffin presiding, After the opening exercises she welcomed all present and Mrs. Dan Tiffin gave a report of the District annual meeting held at Reid's corners. Whitechurch Day at the Southampton Museum is to be on August 22. The ladies were asked to forward a contribution for the Toronto Exhibition. Mrs. Tiffin demonstrated the art of ironing fancy crocheted centrepieces with very full edg- ing, starching with a tablespoon of boiled cornstarch, and iron- ing the centrepiece under a towel to keep it from sticking to the iron. Mrs. Russel Ross had charge of the current events paper. Five ladies were appointed to attend the Institute Conference at Guelph on June 20, Mrs, Coffin, Mrs. George Walker, Mrs. E. E. Walker, Mrs. Jas. E. Cur- rie and Mrs. Frank Ross, or Mrs. Thos. Metcalfe. All enjoyed singing, "Silver Threads among the Gold", "Home on the Range," " Old Folks at Home" and "Good- night, Ladies." The meeting closed with the national anthem and the Insti- tute grace. The hostesses, Mrs. Russell Gaunt and Mrs. Victor Emerson served lunch. Institute Takes Trip to London WHITECHURCH--The Ladies of the Institute enjoyed their annual bus trip last Tuesday. This year they went to London. It turned out to be a cold, rainy day, but the genial bus driver took them on the London Chamber of Commerce tour of special places. They visited industrial centres in the city, the Airport, Fenshaw Park and Dam, drove past the Pioneer Village to Story Book Garden, where the ladies had their lunch. They then toured El- don House on Dundas St. , built in 1834, and went to the shop- ping district, The following went on the trip, Mrs. Claude Coffin, Mrs. Dan Tiffin, Mrs. G. E. Miss Florence Moir of Tor- onto spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Richardsdn. Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Simpson and children attended anniver- sary services at Langside and visited with Mr. and Mrs. Doug- las ouglas Simpson of Culross. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rintoul visited with Mr. and Mrs. Laurie Scott of Blyth on Sunday, when they held open house on the 25th anniversary of their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Willis Lapp and family and Douglas Orr, Wingham, Mr, Jas. Orr of Lon- don, Mr. and Mrs. John L. Cur- rie and family, and Miss Mari- lyn Ritchie, Teeswater, visited on Sunday with Mrs. Wm, Orr of Langside and attended the anniversary services there. Mr, and Mrs. Garnet Farrier, Wayne and Janis, and Mrs. J. G. Gillespie were at Malton on Sunday and Mrs. Gillespie left by plane to spend a few weeks with her sister, Miss Edith Peddle of Edmonton, and other relatives at Saskatoon and Van- couver, Mr. and Mrs. Farrier and family visited with Mr. and Mrs. Carman Farrier at Long Branch, and their mother, Mrs, W. R. Farrier, who had visited there for a week returned home. Miss June Colyer of Lucknow visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Colyer. Mr, and Mrs. Archie Purdon and daughters left on Sunday to visit with Mr, and Mrs. Floyd Bott of Belwood, and found Mrs. Bott and children sick with mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Gaunt and Donald spent Sunday at the Dirstein cottage at Sauble Beach. Mr., and Mrs. Gaunt were celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Dirstein of Toron- to, are visiting there this week after a motor trip to Ottawa, Montreal, Lake Champlain and Cape Cod, during their three weeks' vacation. Mrs. Orville Elliott of Ripley will teach in S. S, No. 9 Kin- loss in September, The Sunday School of the United Church will hold its picnic at the lake at the end of the 12th Concession this Satur- day. Those who need a ride are to gather at Mr. Chapman's store at 2 p.m. The U. C. W. of the United Church has been invited to at- tend a church tea at St. Helens on Tuesday, 2 p.m. , when Rev. Angus MacKay will be special speaker. Mr. and Mrs. John Rintoul and family of Toronto spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rintoul and other relatives in this district. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Fisher and children of Owen Sound spent the week -end with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. George Fisher, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fisher of Toronto left this week- end to spend part of three weeks' vacation with Timmins friends. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. E. Cur- rie spent Sunday at Southamp- ton and Port Elgin, and visited with Miss Bertha Walker of Walkerton. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Taylor of London spent the week -end with his parents, Mr, and Mrs. Chester Taylor of W. Wawa - nosh, and visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jam- ieson. Huron County Federa- tion of Agriculture is holding its annual worship service this Sunday at the Salvation Army summer camp, north of Bay- field at 3 p. m, Those attend- ing may take a picnic lunch and chocolate milk and coffee will be provided.
