Mrs. G. Edgar Dies in Ripley
Mrs. Mary Avis Edgar pass-
ed away last Wednesday, May
15th, in Ripley at the age of
69. She was the widow of the
late George H. Edgar and was
born October 23rd, 1893, in
Grand Rapids, Mich., a daugh-
ter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
John David Eaton.
She was a member of Wing -
ham United Church and is sur-
vived by two sons, George of
Concord and Bruce of Toronto,
two daughters, Mrs. Jack
(Frances) Schultz of Ripley and
Mrs. J. D. (Vera) Murdoch of
Vancouver. There are eight
grandchildren and four great
grandchildren, and one sister,
Mrs. Jessie Cheslek of Sparta,
Mich,
Mrs. Edgar spent most of her
early life at Bankleek Hill near
Ottawa.
Funeral service was on Satur-
day at 2 p. m. from R. A. Cur-
rie & Sons funeral home, con-
ducted by Rev. Mr. Strapp,
assisted by Mr. J. D. Murdoch.
Burial was in Teeswater Ceme-
tery.
Pallbearers were Ray, Earl,
Harvey and Paul Edgar, Louis
Stonehouse and Charlie John-
son. Flower bearers, were
Charles and Richard Cheslek.

Presides at WMS
WHITECHURCH-- The W.M.S.
of the Presbyterian Church was
held on Friday last, in the S, S.
room of the church, with Mrs.
Wm. Rintoul, lst vice-presi-
dent in the chair, Eleven la-
dies were present, Mrs. Rin-
toul gave the call to worship
and read a poem, "Make Me
Kind". She read the Scripture
from Ezekial, the prophet who
told the people about their
blessings. Mrs. Derwyn Hill
gave the meditation talk on
blessings. The roll call was
answered by a Biblical verse,
containing the word blessing
and Mrs. Walter Lott led in
prayer. Mrs. Rintoul led in the
offertory prayer.
Mrs. Dawson Craig gave the
report of the Synodical meet-
ings in the Presbyterian Church,
Wingham, and Mrs. Wesley
Tiffin led in the Glad Tidings
prayer. Mrs. Craig had charge
of the topic on the problems of
Taiwan, telling of the startling
growth in population in that
country. Mrs. Walter Elliott
held a quiz on famous speeches
A hymn was sung and Mrs. Rin-
toul closed the meeting with
prayer.

erson at the sale, last Saturday.

WHITECIIURCH--The ladies
of the local Women's Institute
visited last Tuesday at their
May meeting with the older
folks at Brookhaven Home, north
of Wingham. Mrs. Coffin,
president, presided for a short
program. Mrs. Ezra Scholtz
played several violin numbers.
Mrs. Russell Ross gave two
readings, "Life's Lessons", and
"Heads Bent Low, like Full
}leads of Grain, Can Mean a
Different Understanding of Life's
Problems".
Mrs. Scholtz and Mrs. Cof-
fin sang, " Bless this I louse" ,
and Mrs, J. D. Beecroft had
charge of the topic, "Our res-
ponsibility to the younger gen-
eratioti to make them acquaint-
ed with the history of God's
people". Mrs. Dan Tiffin led
in a number of community
songs.
The meeting was closed with
the national anthem and the
grace. Lunch was served and
each of the patients in the home
received a parcel of fruit. The
ladies decided to go to Eldon
House, and McCormack Candy
Factory, London, on their bus
trip on June 11. The ladies ac-
cepted an invitation from the
Wingham Institute to attend a
meeting there on June 13.
