the Imperial Bank of Com-
merce in Wroxeter and com-
menced her duties last week.
Mr. and Mrs. Scott Keith
and family of Stoney Creek
were week -end visitors with
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Keith.
Mr. and Mrs. Jim Patterson
of Toronto spent the week -end
with Mrs. Pearl Patterson.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gibson
visited Sunday with Mr. and
Mrs. Norman Baetz, Elmwood.
Week -end visitors with Mr.
and Mrs. Roy Simmons were
Mr. and Mrs. Maitland Porter
of Springfield.
Mrs. Ed. Montgomery of
Toronto was a week -end visitor
with Mrs. Pearl Patterson.
Miss Marian Duke of Wes-
tern University, London, is
spending a few days with her
mother, Mrs. Pearl Duke.
Mr. and Mrs. George Mee-
chan and family moved their
household belongings from
Gorrie last week, and have
taken up residence in the Henry
Heise apartment,
Messrs. James Vittie, Fraser
Lynn, Alex Graham and Hector
Hamilton of the Howick Le-
gion, attended a District C
convention, held Sunday in
Wingham.
Mr. and Mrs. Carman Bride
of Port Credit spent Sunday
with Mrs. Edna Bride.
Mr. Ernest Wegerich left
the past week, by boat, for a
three mouth's visit with relatives
in Germany.
Mr. and Mrs, Harry Lohr
and Ward returned home Sun-
day, after a month's visit in
Florida.
Miss Jean Fritz of Harriston
spent last week with Mr. and
Mrs. Laverne McKenzie.
John R. Graham
Died at Hospital
Funeral service was held
Tuesday from the R. A. Currie
& Sons funeral home, for John
Rennie Graham, R.R. 2, Wing -
ham, who died in hospital on
Sunday morning. He had been
ill only a short ,time.
Mr. Graham was born 80
years ago in Lucknow, son of
John and Mary Ann Graham.
He attended school in Lucknow.
He was employed as a rail-
road brakeman and later worked
in the factory of the Ford
Motor Company.
He married Catherine Mc-
Allister on December 1, 1944
at Windsor. She survives.
Mr. Graham was retired and
came to live here in 1945.
He was a member of Berea
Gospel Chapel, Wingham and
was a vetern of World War I,
when he served with Canadian
Forces in France and Egypt.
Mr. Robert Brandon conduct-
ed the funeral service and in-
terment was in South Kinloss
Cemetery, Lucknow.
Pallbearers were Orvill
Welsh, Rennie Graham, John
McKenzie, Allan Graham,
Richard Carter and Samuel
Martin.
John Strong Was
Community Leader
GORRIE--John Whitney
Strong, R, R. 1, Gorrie, died
suddenly Sunday April 28, in
Listowel Memorial Hospital.
He was the son of the late
William Strong and his wife,
Ellen Warrell, and was born in
Howick Township, Lot 10,
Con, 10, on August 19, 1905,
He was a retired elder of
the Gorrie United Church, a
former president of the Howick
Agricultural Society, and a
leader in Junior Farmers groups.
He was a member of Gorrie
Orange Lodge and former mem-
ber of Orange Hill Lodge, and
a past president of the Ayrshire
Banner Counties Club.
Surviving are his wife, the
former Florence Marguerite
Edgar, whom he married in
1927; four sons William of
Gorrie, Perry, Robert and
Alexander of Howick Town-
ship; two daughters, Mrs. J. A.
(Helen) Currie of Wingham and
Joanne at home; two brothers,
James of New York, N. Y. and
Wellesley of Gorrie; one sister,
Mrs. Telford (Freda) Mont-
gomery of London, Ont.; and
10 grandchildren.
Funeral service was held at
the Gorrie United Church at
2 p.m. on Wednesday, con-
ducted by Rev. Fred W. Tay-
lor and Rev. W. J. Hird. Pall-
bearers were Charles Black,
Harold Robinson, Melvin Tay-
lor, Leo Ruttan, Harry Zimmer
man and Kenneth Galbraith.
Flowerbearers were John
Marks, Robert Nickel, Donald
Edgar, Stewart Edgar and Ivan
Montgomery.
STEEL CONSTRUCTION is now under way at the vo-
cational wing of the Wingham District High School.
This picture shows one of the shops as it begins to
take form. The new addition to the school is slated
for use next fall.
