Mr. and Mrs, Eric Elliott, June and David of Ottawa, who spent the week -end with her sister, Miss Leah Currie, Wing- ham, and other relatives in this district, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Gaunt. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Adams and Mr. and Mrs. John DeBoor have been laid up during the week- end with measles. Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Simpson and children visited on Sunday with her mother, Mrs, Annie Struthers, who has been a pa- tient in Pine Crest Nursing Home, Lucknow, for some weeks. Miss Janet Watson of Aylmer spent the weekend with Mr, and Mrs. Gilbert Beecroft and she and her nephew, David Beecroft, left on Tuesday to spend the week at Chicago. Mrs. Velma Dow of London spent the week -end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Coultes. Mr. and Mrs. Relison Fal- coner, Brian and Paul of Sarnia, visited with his mother, Mrs. Cecil Falconer and then, with Mr. and Mrs. John Stacey, Wingham, spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Glen Mints of Newmarket. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fisher of Toronto spent the week -end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Fisher. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gibson and children of Ashfield, visited there on Sunday. James Wilson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Wilson, London spent the week -end with Garry Chapman, Mr. and Mrs. Angus Falcon- er, Alan and Kevin of Streets- ville, are spending this week with his mother, Mrs. Cecil Falconer. Mr. John Richard- son has been a patient in Wing- ham ingham Hospital over the week- end suffering from an elbow injury which he received in a fall. Mrs. Louis Ford of Sarnia and her nephew, Harold Piercy of Napanee, visited on Satur- day with Mr. and Mrs. Millan Moore. Mr. Wm. Forster, Mrs. Ste- wart and Lorne Forster, Mr, and Mrs. John Forster and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Henderson and Barbara, Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stewart, Benmil- ler, and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Perrott and children, Goderich, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Perrott and child- ren leave by jet plane in May to visit his parents in Northern Ireland. Mr. Perrott has been in Canada over fifteen years. Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Coup - land of Toronto spent the week- end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Robinson and with Wroxeter relatives. Mr. Wm. Ashby and his son, William, and two daughters, Heather Mrs. Fred Culbert Buried Saturday WHITECHURCH—Mrs. Fred Culbert of Walton passed away last Wednesday in Wingham Hospital, after a short illness. She was in her 73rd year. She was the former Ethel Myra Barbour, eldest daughter of the late James Barbour and Isabela Mount of West Wawa - nosh. She was raised at her home at Bethel Church and married Mr. Culbert 52 years ago. She is survived by her hus- band; three sons, Llewellyn of Stratford, Melbourne of Goder- ich and Clifford of George- town; one daughter, Mrs, Ross McNichol of Moncton, N.B. , one sister, Mrs, Ben McClena- ghan and two brothers, James of London and Elwood on the home farm in West Wawanosh. There are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rev, Higginbottom of Wal- ton United Church officiated at the Johnston funeral home, Lucknow on Saturday with Harold, Tom and Eldon Cul- bert and George Errington of Dungannon, Kenneth Barbour of Bluevale and Carl McClena- ghan as pallbearers. All members of her family attended the funeral and others from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Irwin McClenaghan and family of St. Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin McClenaghan and Michael of Waterloo, and Mr. and Mrs, Harry Moss and family of Plattsville. Interment was in Greenhill cemetery, Lucknow. The family gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Angus Mcbon- aid, St. Helens, after the funeral. in Whitechurch District McBurney of Marnoch. Mr. and Mrs, Forrest Payne, who were visiting last week with Mr. and Mrs. Wm, Ken- nedy of Marnoch, returned home to Detroit on Thursday. Alan Moore of London, spent this weekend, and Mr. and Mrs, Leo Devine of Parkhill visited on Sunday at the Ken- nedy home. Mr, and Mrs. Fred Moore of Straffordville also spent the week -end there, and left on Monday to attend the Pee Wee hockey games in Goderich, as some of their grandchildren were on teams playing there on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert White of Ingersole visited on Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cook of Marnoch, and Mr, and Mrs. Harold Slesser and family of Glamis and other local Cook families and grandchildren, visited at Marnoch on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Schwichtenberg and baby daughter of Port Elgin, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Coultes. Mr, and Mrs. Jack Gilles- pie and family of Sarnia, spent the week -end with his mother, Mrs. J. G. Gillespie and Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Farrier, and with Mrs. Gillespie's mother, Mrs. W. R, Farrier. Barry Gillespie is spending his holi- days this week with relatives here. Mrs. Leonard Coyne and children of Windsor are spending this week with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Robinson, Beigrave, and with other Robinson relatives in E. Wawanosh. Miss Elaine Conn returned home from Toronto on Thurs- day, and Miss Karen Groskorth of Toronto also returned to her home here on Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Carman Far- rier and family of Long Branch, Mr, and Mrs. Clifford Farrier and family of Kitchener, Mr, and Mrs. Russell Farrier, Wing - ham, and Mrs, Lorne Johnston, Lucknow, visited on Sunday with Mrs, W. R. Farrier and Miss Winnifred. Dale Farrier of Kitchener is spending his holidays with relatives here. Mrs. W, R. Farrier has been laid up with a bad attack of flu during the past month. Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Tay- lor and daughters spent Thurs- day in Toronto, and Miss Ruth Ann, who attends Business College there, returned home for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. Eimer Huff- man, Beverly and Susan of Lucan, visited last Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Tif- fin. Mrs. Dawson, Andrew Henderson and Mr. and Mrs. Tiffin spent Sunday with Strat- ford friends. The U. C. W, attended an Easter Thankoffering in Lucknow United Church on Tuesday eve- ning and also attended an Eas- ter Thankoffering at the Presby- terian Church here on Wednes- day. e 30th grandchild of Mr. and Mrs. Gershom Johnston was born on Friday, April 12, when a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robinson of Donnybrook was born in Wingham Hospital. Two days earlier Mr. and Mrs. Johnston's third great-grand- child was born to Mr. and Mrs. Redg. Peacock ( Violet Johnson), when they had a daughter in Alliston Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. H. E. John- ston of Hamilton spent a few days last week at the manse with Mr. and Mrs, Derwyn Hill and David Hill accompanied Mrs. D. Tiffin Retires from Office, Mrs. Coffin Is Pres. WHITECHURCH--The April meeting of the Women's Insti- tute was held on Wednesday last at the home of Mrs. Gar- net Farrier, with the president, Mrs. Dan Tiffin presiding, and with 23 ladies present. After the opening exercises, the secretary, Mrs. Victor Emer- son, read a letter from Mrs. Trevor, president of the On- tario Institute, asking for sta- tistics regarding the members of societies, whether young women or older, country wo- men or village, married or single. She gave the corres- pondence, and financial report for the year. Over $750 had been taken in through catering, euchres and other projects. There is over $300 balance, after store bills of $160 and paying instalment on installa- tions of water in the hall, new stage curtains, convention and District Federation expenses and Christmas treats for older citizens, etc. Mrs. Albert McQuillan gave a reading, "Life's Blessings." The ladies decided to change the date of the meeting from Wednesday, back to the former second Tuesday at 2 p.m. They will assist with the eight girls from 12 to 14 years, who have signed up for the 4-11 pro- ject this year. The ladies planned for a bus trip to the convention at Guelph on June 20, Plans were made and com- mittees appointed to cater for the Turnbell reunion in May and for the St. Helens Sunshine Sisters' banquet in April. Mrs. O. G. Anderson of the Huron Medical Hospital Ser- vices, was present, and told of the changes in the regulations of this group, who had been asked to raise their fee to that of the 40 other groups in On- tario. She outlined the extra benefits given to balance the raised fee. Mrs. Anderson was given a vote of appreciation for het informative address. Mrs. Russell Ross was ap- pointed to chair the meeting for the installation of new of- ficers, who were duly installed. Mrs. Tiffin moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. G. E, Farrier for her hospitality and use of her home, and thanked all the members for their co-operation through the years of her leader• ship as president of the society. The new president, Mrs, Coffin spoke briefly asking for their continued co-operation. Mrs. Dan Tiffin was given a vote of appreciation for her untiring labour for the Institute during her years as president. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sleight- holm leightholm and family visited on Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Robt. Bolton of Teeswater. Janet stayed to have her holi- day there. Mr, Sleightholm has been putting steel on the west side of the Godkin barn this week, as the recent wind storm left few of the shingles on the roof. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Rinn visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Vroman of Staffa, Mrs. Rinn received word Sunday of the passing of her sister, Mrs. Neil Garland, formerly Olive Stonenan of Mitchell, at Kapuskasing. Mrs. Garland was in her sixty- first year and besides her hus- band, left one married daught- er. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. A. Williams of Goderich visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs, Robert Scott. Mr. and Mrs. John Eckens- wilier of Carlsruhe visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Eckenswiller. Mr. Wm, Elliott, and Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Montgomery, Wingham, Mr. and Mrs. John Jamieson and sons of E. Wawa - nosh, Mr. and Mrs. Don Fraser and family, Walton and Mr. and Mrs. Keith Montgomery and children, Wingham, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Anson Ruttan of Fordwich. Mrs. Wm. Henry has se- cured a home in Teeswater and will move there the last of this month. Dr. Helen Allister of Mel- rose visited on Friday with Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan and with Mrs. George McClena- ghan, Miss Sumi Iwamoto, Reg. N. of Toronto, spent the week -end with Mrs. George and Miss Mildred McClenaghan, Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClena- ghan visited on Monday with McIntosh U.C.W. Holds Meeting McINTOSH--Mrs, Alan Dar- ling was hostess for the April meeting of the United Church Women. The meeting opened with the hymn, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" . Mrs. Pace conducted the devotions. The president was in charge of the business portion of the meeting. The roll call "What does Easter mean to me?" was answered by thirteen ladies. Mrs. Bruce Harkness gave the treasurer's report. Mrs. Eldon Renwick and Mrs. Jack Fergus- on gave a very interesting re- port of the annual Presbyterial held in Chesley. An invita- tion to attend the Clifford United Church Women's Easter Thankoffering was accepted, Mrs. Clark Renwick and Mrs. Everett Dustow were in charge of the study period, using the chapter "God the Create from the study book, The Word and The Way", The meeting closed with pray- er, Lunch was served by Mrs. Charles Scott, Mrs. Adam Darling and Mrs. Jim Renwick.
