Hallmark's products claim to
be the 'very best' and likewise,
you can always be assured that
their 'Hall of Fame' will pro-
vide the very best in television
entertainment. "The Invinc-
ible Mr. Disraeli" was a fine
90 -minute production, with
one of the most distinguished
casts ever seen in a television
play. This teleplay was, in
many ways, very different from
the Louis Parker play written. in
1910, which many of us studied
in school. The major change
was perhaps the fact that he
allowed Mrs. Disraeli to live
until the end of his play be-
cause, in his own words, she
'was so charming'. This play's
Mrs. Disraeli was charming,
too. Greer Garson, was like a
soft spring breeze after a long
hard winter. And of course,
Trevor Howard gave everything
in his role as the Prime Minis-
ter, even though in many ways
he really wasn't acting. The
supporting players were excel-
lent (particularly Canada's
Kate Reid as Queen Victoria
and even more impressive, to
me, was the beautiful back-
ground music. I believe some
of the camera work could have
been better, but the general
magnificence of the play so
dominated the screen, that
little flaws were easily over-
looked.

The new season at the Strat-
ford Shakespearean Festival is
coming upon us fast and now is
the time to be making your
plans to attend. Four major
plays will be presented in the
Festival Theatre between June
17th and September 28th. They
will be Shakespeare's "Troilus
and Cressida", directed by
Michael Langham, and starring
William Hutt, Douglas Rain,
Peter Donat, Martha Henry and
Kate Reid; " The Comedy of
Errors", directed by Jean Gas-
con, starring Douglas Rain,
Peter Donat, Eric Christmas
and Kate Reid in the rousing
Shakespearean comedy; and a
repeat of last year's hit comedy
"Cyrano de Bergerac" by Ed-
mund Rostand, starring John
Colicos in the title role, Diana
Maddox as Roxane, Eric
Christmas in his hilarious role
as Ragineau again this year, and
Leo Ciceri and Kate Reid in
supporting roles. These three
will be the opening plays to run
throughout June and July.
Joining the repertoire on July
29th will be the Greek tragedy
Show BIZ
By Vonnj Lee
"Timon of Athens", again fea-
turing John Colicos in the title
role, with William Butt, Tony
Van Bridge, and William
Needles supporting. For music
lovers, the Avon Theatre will
be the location for Gilbert and
Sulliban's operetta "The Mika-
do", to be directed by Norman
Campbell with musical arrange-
ments by Louis Applebaum.
This will no doubt be another
standout performance as are all
their Gilbert -Sullivan produc-
tions.

Looks like a very promising
roster for the llth season at
Stratford. I'd advise you to
bring a little culture into your
life by attending one or more
of the plays, but be sure and
get your tickets early. And a
personal recommendation here—
if you weren't lucky enough to
see 'Cyrano' last year, don't
miss it this time!

Marie 'The Body' MacDonald
has made the news again when
this week in Sydney, Australia,
she disappeared from a psychia-
tric clinic where she had been
confined for the last few days.
The 46 -year-old actress, who
is in Sydney for a night-club
engagement, was at last word,
being sought by police. Doc-
tors at the clinic said she was
suffering from a stomach ulcer.
(an ulcer makes you do things
like this??) Things like this
are nothing new for blonde
Marie; a few years ago she was
victim of a kidnapping near
Las Vegas, which she said was
staged by her ex-husband Harry
Karl (now married to Debbie
Reynolds.) She was found a
few days later, wandering
about the Nevada desert in a
fluffy pink nightgown. Her
bruises were believed to be
self-inflicted. She is among
the stars in Holly'd (another is
Jayne Mansfield) who will do
anything for a bit of publicity.
However, it is unfair to judge
her in this latest episode. One
thing for sure, she is either a
very sick gal or completely
obsessed by a desire for fame.
Either way, she should be proof
that the life of a glamour girl
is not all a bed of roses,

More publicity out of Holly-
wood that may or may not mean
a thing: actress -singer Mamie
Van Doren announced her en-
gagement to famed pitcher
with the Los Angeles Angels,
Bo Belinsky. Van Doren, 30,

is another blonde bombshell
on the Holly'd frontier, but be-
cause she has as much upstairs
as anywhere else, her publicity
has been nothing but favourable
and career -boosting. She has
been married twice before; her
last husband was bandleader Ray
Anthony, Belinsky, 26, though
he is an excellent ballplayer
and could become a top sports
figure, has become well known
because of his extra -curricular
activities with the Holly'd
stars, and could well find him-
self without a career if he
doesn't smarten up and leave

Safety Films
Are Available
Youngsters who can't swim
and don't know how to handle
a boat are often all wet. That
is the theme of two water
safety films just released by the
Sun Life Assurance Company of
Canada and produced in co-
operation with the Canadian
Red Cross Society.
The films, "Be Water Wise"
and "Boating and Good Sense"
are in colour and run 14
minutes each. They were pro-
duced by Crawley Films Limit-
ed and will be available for
group showings through local
Red Cross Branches.
"Be Water Wise", features
the fundamentals of swimming
and water safety with emphasis
on the fact that the secret of
water safety is primarily a
matter of care, training and
common sense. The film also
features demonstrations of
floating, treading water and
water rescue techniques.
"Boating and Good Seuse"
covers boating safety and safe
,water-skiing practises with
'hints for both the skier and
those handling the boat. The
film points out common dangers
in boating and stresses the im-
portance of proper equipment.
Both films have been plan-
ned for audiences of all age
groups and are especially of
interest to children. They
were filmed in the Laurentians
last summer. Prints of these
films may be borrowed for
group showings from Red Cross
Branches throughout Canada.
the parties earlier so he can
make it to ball practice on
time. Although he is a highly
paid player (not nearly in the
Mantle, Maris ranks, of course),
he'll have trouble equalling
Mamie's haul. She is now at'
such a height on the ladder that
she can demand twelve thou-
sand dollars weekly at a Las
Vegas night-club.
