C. Denny Dies At Preston Home J. C. Vernon Denny, 507 Grand Valley Drive, Preston, died at his residence April 4, 1963 in his 62nd year, after several months of ill health. Born in Fordwich, Ontario, he resided in Fordwich, Wroxeter and Owen Sound prior to mov- ing to Preston in 1952. He was a roadmaster on the Canadian Pacific Railway until his retirement, due to illness, three years ago. An honorary elder, he was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Preston and was also a member of the Wroxeter Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife, the former Gladys Broughton; one son, Clifford, of Owen Sound; one daughter, Thelma of Pres- ton; four grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth of Fergus and Alvin of Guelph. One brother, Earld, predeceased him. A memorial service was Receive Gifts From Friends FORDWICH—A presentation and dance was held in the community hall on Friday night, in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer, and Paul, who recently sold their grocery and restaurant and will be leaving next week for Brantford. Mrs. Elmer Millar read an address, and on behalf of the community they were presented with a wall mirror, bathroom hamper and a purse of money. Paul was presented with stirling silver cufflinks and tie pin. T. J., Florence and Paul, thanked everyone. Lunch was served and dancing was enjoy- ed. conducted at the Stager - Barthel funeral home, Preston on April 5th at 2 p.m. The body was then moved to the Moir funeral horde, Gorrie, where a memorial service under the auspices of the Wroxeter Masonic Lodge took place at 8 p.m. Funeral service was con- ducted at the Moir funeral home, April 6th at 2 p.m. with Rev. A. Walters of Preston officiating. Pallbearers were Otto Siefert, Jack McLean, Geo. Gibson, Jas. Wylie, Ron- ald McMichael and Bruce Chambers. Internment followed in Ford- wich cemetery. Mr. John Gamble and Mrs. Ruby Forester motored to Mal - ton one day last week, where Mrs. Forester took a plane for Florida. She will visit there for a month with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Doig of St. Catharines visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Doig. Mrs. Doig returned with them after spending the past week there. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Frew, Sharon and Valley of Preston, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Bruker, Mary Lou and John of Baden, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Denny of Erin, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Benin and family of Waterloo visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Moore and attended UCW Evening Unit Holds Vleetinc at Grassy Home BELGRAVE—Mrs. Robert Grasby was hostess for the Eve- ning Unit of the United Church Women last Wednesday, at her home. Mrs. John Nixon open- ed the worship service with the hymn "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" followed by Scripture lesson, read by Mrs. Ted Fear. Meditation was read by Mrs. James Coultes. A hymn was sung and Mrs. Nixon led in prayer, followed by the Lord's prayer in unison. Mrs. Stan Hopper conducted the business and minutes of the last meeting. were read by Mrs. Ken Barbour. Treasurer's re- port was read by Mrs. Alan Dunbar. After the roll call the penny collection was re- ceived and visits to the sick and shut-in recorded. Mrs. Cliff Logan conducted the Bible study, continuing the chapter on love. Mrs. Hopper led in prayer and Mrs. John Nixon conducted a con- test. Lunch was served by Mrs. Laura Johnston and her group. Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse will be hostess for the next meeting. Need Teachers In Morris Twp. The members of Morris Township School Area Board were all present at the regular meeting Wednesday, April 3, Minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. Several items of correspon- dence were discussed. New swings will be erected at S.S. No. 8 and a new piano obtained for S.S. No. 1. Resignations of two teachers were accepted with regret. Teacher contracts for next year were discussed and repre- sentatives of the board will contact teachers at an early date. The following bills were passed for payment: Hood School Supplies, $36.20; Spar- ling's Hardware, $9.21; Old- field Hardware, $1.55; H. Mathers, coal, $60.75; Brussels Coal Yard, oil, $102.51; G. Master Jerry Durst of Lis- towel spent last week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ashton. Master Stephen Espensen, who has been confined to Lis- towel Hospital with bronchial croup, was able to return home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Riddell and children of Barrie spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs. Stan Bride. Mr. and Mrs. Scott Keith and family of Stoney Creek were week -end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Keith. Mr. and Mrs. William Marriner are spending a couple days this week in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Les Burrows of London visited Saturday in the village. Visitors Welcome At Douglas Point The information centre at the Douglas Point Nuclear Power Station will open to the public on Sundays between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. from April 14th. Ivan Lloyd, chief guide at the station, will be on hand to describe the work being carried out at the site. Visitors to the station will also be able to see a new one-half hour film describing the Nuclear Power Demonstration (NPD) station — Canada's first nuclear electric generating station which is now in operation at Rolphton, Ontario. The Douglas Point Informa- tion Centre is operated jointly by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited and Ontario Hydro. Last year, more than 50, 000 people visited the site of this first full-scale nuclear power station. The information centre will be open each Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. from April 14th to May 18th, when full-time summer opera- tion of the centre will begin. Donnybrook A car load of ladies of the Donnybrook U. C. W. attended a special meeting at the Whitechurch United Church on Wednesday afternoon.
