Wayne Henry of Toronto and Miss Frances Henry and Miss Phyllis O'Brien, of London, spent the week -end with Mrs. Wm. Henry at the Henry farm home in Kinloss, Mr. Knott of Toronto was the special speaker at Calvin - Brick United Church on Sunday, speaking in behalf of the Temp- erance Federation. Mrs. Donald Hill and little son, were able to return home from Wingham Hospital on Saturday. Mr. Robert Scott has been laid up with a very sore back during the past week. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Moss and family of Plattsville visited on Sunday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben McClenaghan. Mr. and Mrs, Johnston Conn returned home on Saturday after spending the past four months with Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Keene of Vancouver, B.C., and visited with Sudbury friends last week. Mrs. E. H. Groskorth spent a few days last week with her mother, Mrs. Fred Bagg at Willowdale and with Mr. and Mrs. Paul Groskorth of Toronto. She and Miss Karen Groskorth returned home with Mr. Gros- korth, who had been attending a meeting at Canada Packers, Toronto. Mrs. George Fisher attend- ed the teachers' convention at London, at the Central School on Saturday. Four Units Make Quilts FORDWICU—The Fordwich W. I. met in the community hall, with Mrs, John Craig pre- siding. Devotions were taken by Mrs. George Ashton, who read the Easter story. The motto, "He who works with nature works with God", was prepared by Mrs. Clarence Carswell and read by Mrs. Les- lie Loughran. Donations of money were made to: The International Scholarship Fund; F. W. I. C. Foundation of Ottawa; Adel- aide Hoodless Home Fund; Northwest Branches Fund; Pen- nies for Friendship; gift for Florence Eadie; a gift to a polio patient in Guelph Hospi- tal, Mrs. Robt. Campbell, who has been confined for eleven years. The W, I, members voted to help entertain the hockey boys at a social evening. A daffo- dil tea and bake sale was plan- ned. Mrs. Clare Harris presented the new slate of officers. Mr. and Mrs. Wray Cooper showed slides of their trip to England and Western Europe. A social hour was spent and hostesses were, Mrs. Clarence Carswell, Mrs. Glenn Martin, Mrs. Lorne Siefert and Mrs. John Inglis. Black Knights' Guest Speaker Is Grand Master FORDWICH--The Ladies Orange Lodge catered to 50 Royal Black Knights and their wives on Thursday night in the basement of the Fordwich Uni- ted Church, A turkey dinner was enjoyed. Guest speaker was Harry Collins of Woodstock, Grand Master of Royal Black Chapter of Ontario West. He was pre- sented with a gift of silver by William Campbell. Master Billie Richards gave several selections on the accordion. Mrs, Robt. Campbell and Robt. Hibberd favored with two duets, and Austin Stinson gave a read- ing. Mr, and Mrs. Arnold Doig and Mr, and Mrs. Ross Doig visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lounsbury in St. Catharines. Mrs. Ross Doig remained for several days, owing to the death of her bro- ther, Mr. James Grant, who passed away very suddenly on Friday. The sympathy of the community goes to Mrs, Doig. Mrs. T. J. Schaefer and Mrs. Fred Hambly returned to their homes last week from Lis- towel Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lohr and Ward left on Sunday for a month's vacation in Florida, and down through the Southern States. Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Hargrave, David and Douglas, and Mr. and Mrs. Alex Reid and family visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Alex Wray in Toronto. Mr. and Mrs. Bob Campbell and family visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. George Moss in Galt. Mrs. Glenn Johnson, Misses Helen Johnson and Leslie Camp- bell were Kitchener visitors Saturday. Little Stephen Espensen, 14 - month -old son of Mr. and Mrs. Holger Espensen, is again con- fined to Listowel Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Reed and daughters, of West Flambor- ough, visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Wellington Hargrave. Miss Pauline Sothern of Wing - ham visited over the week -end with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Darcey and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gib - Store Sold to Brantford Couple FORDWICH—Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Schaefer, who have had the corner grocery store and restaurant since May 1959, have sold their business to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Norris of Brant- ford who take possession on April 15th. Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer are moving to Brantford. Mr. and Mrs. Norris have a son and daughter of high school age. GORRIE—The four units of the United Church Women held an all -day quilting in the church. Fourty-four ladies turned out and thirteen quilts were completed. Four addi- tional ones and one crib size were also turned in, making a total of 17 quilts and one crib quilt ready for shipment to over- seas verseas relief. A bale of good used clothing will be packed April 17, which will also be for over- seas shipment. Spring rains bring driving dangers we may have forgotten about. One of them is the fact that, at the very time when a driver's vision is most limited, pedestrians are liable to make hasty mistakes to avoid getting wet while crossing streets. Gorrie Personals Rev. Roy T. Jordison, mis- sionary from Trinidad, will speak in the Gorrie United Church on Wednesday, May 8, at three o'clock. A cordial in- vitation is extended to all in- terested to attend. The annual meeting of the Gorrie Community Club will be held on Friday evening April 5th, at 8:30 in the Gorrie Com- munity Hall. Euchre will be played. Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Strong attended the funeral on Satur- day of Mr. E. H. Close of Sea - forth. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Camp- bell, Mrs. Thos. Hubbard and Mrs. Robt. Hubbard of Hanover were Sunday guests at the home of Mr. Burton Hubbard. Mr. Jas. Walker, Brampton, spent Friday and Saturday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Walker. Mr. Lorne Walker suf- fered a heart attack on Thursday Mrs. Malcolm Snelgrove, Ruth and Patricia of Carelton Place, Mr. Fred Taylor, Lind- say, Mr. Norman Taylor, Hamilton, spent the week -end with their parents, Rev. and Mrs. Fred W. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Edgar accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Leaving Gorrie GORRIE—Mr. and Mrs. Ilart- well Strong entertained on Wed- nesday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. John Lerch, who are moving near Elmira. Friends and neighbours gathered and presented them with a maga- zine rack and table lamp. Mr. Lerch has sold his farm to Joseph Burns of Ilolton, who takes possession on April 4. Cameron Stewart, Molesworth, and visited relatives in the Ayr community and also Rev. and Mrs. W. J. V. Buchanan on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Elliott Mr. Harvey Elliott of Listowel, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Petrie on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilford King spent Monday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Earls of London. Mrs. King remained until Fri- day. Decide to Hold Compititions GORRIE--The directors of the Howick Agricultural Society met in the Orange Hall to hear three reports of the 63rd annual fall fair convention held in Toronto in February. Mrs. William Wilson and Mrs. Harold Robinson reported the activities of the women's division, stressing the new trends in food displays and pro- cessing, also different handi- crafts. Roy Strong dealt with the men's section of entertainment, co-operation and promotion of more utility and market classes in cattle sections. It was decided to again spon- sor oats and corn field crop competitions with S.J. Robinson and Oscar Kieffer in charge of oats club and Ronald McMich- ael and Murray Mulvey the corn competition. Judges were picked for all the departments of the fair. To date a theme for the 1063 fair has not been decided upon. Mrs. Margaret Rapp of Priceville and Miss Dorothy Cain of Harriston, student teachers, are this week teach- ing at S.S. No. 14, Minto, where Mrs, Gordon Steinacker is the teacher. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Browne and family visited Sunday with relatives in Willowdale. Mrs. Jessie Partridge of Hamilton is spending two weeks with her daughter and son-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. John Hor- vath, Mr. Paul Schaefer spent one day last week in Brantford. Mr. and Mrs. Robt. Sander- son attended the funeral last week of the late William Young, who was killed in a car -truck accident on Highway 401. Mr. Young was a cousin of Mrs. Sanderson.
