Fieldman's Report
Blaine reported that 1,700 new
members have been recruited in Ontario
since January of 1989,97 in Huron. Our
goal was 150.
Tingley rubber boots are still avail-
able at a hardware store in Ingersoll.
These boots were a big seller at OFMA.
November 20 was the McKillop
Township annual meeting.
Blaine then ran elections for the four
new executive directors on the HCFA
executive. The new members are: Bob
Down, Larry Plaetzer, Ralph Scott, and
Heinz Claus.
Convention Resolutions
Lambton-Middlesex held a meeting
in Petrolia on November 20 for the sur -
88 THE RURAL VOICE
rounding county delegates to discuss
resolutions. Chris said he would like at
least a carload to go. This meeting was
after our own county convention resolu-
tion meeting (date set as soon as resolu-
tions out).
Dates were discussed for directors'
meetings for the coming year. Wednes-
days and the first of the month were
suggested, with possibly afternoon
meetings in the winter.
County Council Grant?
A motion was made by Larry Plaet-
zer, seconded by Paul Klopp, for Carol
to make an appointment with the Agri-
culture and Property Committee of
County Council. When a date is given,
the HCFA will make a presentation to
them. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Bob Harri-
son, seconded by John Gaunt, for Carol
to write to township clerks to set up
annual visits with township councils.
Carried.
The "Wright situation" was once
again discussed. A motion was made by
Larry Plaetzer, seconded by Nathan
Peel, for the HCFA to set up a trust fund
to support the Wrights' defence of the
appeal, making the funds payable to the
Huron County Federation of Agricul-
ture (through the Credit Union). Monies
are to be used towards the court costs for
the defence against this appeal. Motion
carried.
Letters are to be sent out to other
county federations through the OFA;
letters are to be sent out to commodity
boards.
Reasons for the trust fund: the case
is precedent -setting, the Wrights have
already won the case, the federation is
backing them, the HCFA should support
a member in need, Mr. Wright seems to
be unjustly held up from his normal
business of farming, and the whole thing
affects a farmer's trust in his feed com-
pany.
