68 THE RURAL VOICE
An antibiotic to control microbic
infections such as salmonella in poultry
is now available from Britain.
Menorex, from Vetmark Services,
kills microbes by attacking the DNA of
the microbial cell.
At very low concentrations, the anti-
biotic can attack and destroy all the key
bacteria and mycoplasmas of birds. For
example, it can attack a mixed infection
like e.coli and mycoplasma gallisep-
ticum, killing both, unlike some other
antibiotics which can only deal with
either bacteria or mycoplasmas.
Although it will not cure disease
caused by viral microbes, Menorex can
reduce or stop the secondary bacteria/
mycoplasmas often present at the same
time. Used for strategic medication, it
can prevent or reduce disease.
Available in liquid or powder form,
the palatable drug is put in the bird's
drinking water and is easily absorbed
from the gut even when food is present.
Enquiries from prospective agents
are welcomed by the company. Contact
