The Rural Voice, 1989-08, Page 79PCPPA NEWSLETTER, cont'd Perth County directors recently had a tour of Schneider's packing plant. Many directors noted the absolutely disgraceful job of tattooing that is done. We tried to read the tattoos on the carcasses as they came off the line heading for the cooler. They were all over the front right area of the pig. Only a few were where they were supposed to be — squarely on the shoulder. Many had varying numbers of digits that could not be read. Some were so faint you could hardly see them and some could not be found at all. This was more than enough to convince many that they should be doing their own tattooing. LE TOURNAMEN' ......................................... The golf tournament is on. The date is August 23. The place is the Listowel Golf Course. Tee -offs will be on the first and the tenth fairways starting at 10:15 and going to 12:00. Phone Vince Hulshof (393-5586) to register and get your tee -off time. Registra- tion with Vince is mandatory because of the different set-up this year. Be prompt; if you are not there for your tee -off time you will wait for a time slot opening or until everyone has teed -off. The meal is at 6 p.m. Dress code: collared shirts and decent shorts. Bring your own clubs because rentals are very scarce. Only five electric carts will be reserved for those with health problems.0 Gordon Jack (Faxing provided by Elma Mutual Ins.) RRFA NEWSLETTER, cont'd was to be discontinued by the Ministry of Natural Resources. However, because of the reaction of the Large rural population in that area, the funding was continued for 1989. We also learn that the Minister of Natural Resources, Vince Kerrio, is implementing a new program to control predators damaging rural property and livestock. The RRFA is establishing a committee to investigate this program and be certain that the District is included in any predator control assistance. Past consultations with District MNR officials have always resulted in the state- ment that no funds are available from Toronto for predator control. The RRFA is seeking the support of all District munici- palities and any individuals with ideas con- cerning predator control. Give your sugges- tions to any director of the RRFA. District municipalities are now using significant portions of their road budget on nuisance beaver. However, the municipali- ties have no way to control predators causing damage on private property. Since the MNR protects predators, it should also be finan- cially responsible for their control.0 Dean Hodgson SGC oDS4 oOC K BODMIN ADVANTAGES PRODUCTIVITY – customers weaning over 23 pigs/sow/year EFFICIENCY – 2.67 feed conversion on 619 purebreds GROWTH – customers averaging 146 days to 220 pounds CARCASS QUALITY – Bodmin genetics: Champion of three major performance tested shows — Ont.
