Any company wishing to market the bacteria, Dr. Behki says, would first have to do some tests to see how the bacteria work in the field. According to Dr. Behki, the concen- trations of herbicide in commercial containers are different from the experi- mental samples, and he is not sure how the bacteria would perform in used herbicide containers. They might need more time to work or more restricted conditions. There has been no commer- cial interest to date. Currently, farmers have no access to these bacteria. Dr. Behki says that the Research Centre does not want to hand bacteria out indiscriminantly. The bacteria would have to be handled properly, he adds; "otherwise they may create more problems than they solve." But a product to clean herbicide cans will be available at some point in the future, Dr. Behki says. "The technology is there. It just has to be developed."0 SCOTT ACQUIRES 50% OF AXIS Bill Scott of Seaforth, Ontario re- cently acquired a 50 per cent share of Axis Products Ltd.
