peaks. Gradually add sugar and beat
until stiff. Spread berries evenly over
cake and then spread meringue mix-
ture over fruit. Bake a further 20 min-
utes at 160°C (325°F) or until done.
Berries could be folded into the mer-
ingue for a more colourful topping.
Trudy made this recipe and I have
duplicated it using rhubarb and we are
going to try peaches later in the sea-
son. Because the rhubarb is heavier
than the berries, we sliced it thinly and
put it on the batter and cooked it with
the cake in the first 20 minutes, then
added the meringue. For sweeter fruit
you could decrease the sugar in the
meringue.0

BLYTH FESTIVAL
OPENS SEASON
The Blyth Festival opened its 15th
season June 16 with the hilarious rural
comedy The Perils of Persephone, by
Dan Needles.
In the lead role, Jerry Franken
delights the audience as Eldon Currie,
a dairy farmer turned local politician.
Garrison Chrisjohn plays his down to
earth, witty brother Orval, Diana
Belshaw plays his wife Marj, and Ann
Baggley the teenage daughter Wendy.
Rounding out the cast are Greg
Ellwand as the pompous and ineffi-
cient Minister of Agriculture, Patricia
Vanstone as the scheming big -city
politician, and K. Reed Needles as the
spaced -out truck driver who starts all
the "perils" at the Currie farm by
driving his truck into the swamp.
The season continues with Sticks
and Stones, The Donnellys (Part 1),
by James Reaney, The Right One, by
Bryan Wade, Dreamland, by Ray-
mond Storey and John Roby, and The
Mail Order Bride, by Robert Clinton.
