The Rural Voice, 1989-06, Page 48NEWS PERTH WELCOMES PORK PRODUCERS The Ontario Pork Congress is once again featuring the latest innovations in pork production at the Stratford Coli- seum, June 20, 21, and 22. The exhibits include the achieve- ments of the Innovations Club, a group of pork producers who share their ideas on many aspects of pork production. Tuesday, June 20 is Breeder Day. At 11 a.m., Dr. Bernard Laarveld of the University of Saskatchewan will speak about New Methods of Growth Manipulation. At 1 p.m., Helmut Loewen of the OPPMB will discuss Producer Packer Co-operation. At 2 p.m., Dr. Peter English of Scot- land will discuss Hog Management for the '90s. These speakers will also appear on Wednesday and Thursday. Jeanine and Richard Ross of Fergus will be featured in the Producer Profile at noon on Tuesday. Wednesday is Market Day. The Pro- ducer Profile is of Karen Richardson, general manager of Pureline Swine, Units 1 and 2, Fergus. Thursday is Junior Day. Clare and Catherine Schlegel of Stratford are the subjects of the Producer Profile. The Pork Congress also offers a Women's Program after 1 p.m. on Tues- day and Wednesday. Sandy Greiner, an Iowa pork producer who became the first woman farm news director in the U.S., is the guest speaker on Thursday evening. Greiner will also be the speaker for the Tuesday Women's Program at 1:15 p.m. On Tuesday, Diane O'Shea will of- fer Quick and Easy Pork Recipes. On Wednesday is the "Congress Classics" fashion show. Other events at the congress are the Judging Competition, the Pork Platter Competition, the Pig Barbecue Compe- tition, and a contest for Pig Art. Parking at the Coliseum is free. Admission to the congress is S4; chil- dren under 16 are admitted free if ac- companied by an adult.
