Treasure Hunt
chasing
shining penny
up hill and down
bowing to
shrinking dollar
at every mart in town
fools are quite unaware
spring stopped in our valley
depositing crocus there

Farm Wife
He never promised me a rose garden,
Nor even mentioned
foxtail in the bean patch,
stinkweed in the corn,
garlic in the stew.
For all this I grant full pardon
for he loved farm and me.

Planetary Problem
When a tot comes in
Loam from head to toe,
I always wash face first,
Else I'd never know
If she's mine or neighbour's.

LOST: one barefoot boy
In tall grass by slough.
That wandering waif returned
Before June day was through.
When he wandered off
Mid tall towers soaring
Along surging water's rim,
A life-long questing
Failed to discover him
He was back searching for
A barefoot boy in early spring.
The Girders
When Cindy left safe confines
Of fenced pasture, leafy lane,
Cindy waved sunlit good-bye
Vowing she'd never come again.
Only to discover that
Oat and buckwheat bonds
She'd tried to erase
Were the stanchions
That held her heart in place.
