RURAL CONNECTIONS PICKS CO-ORDINATOR
A former farmer from the Holyrood area, Carol Cooper, has been chosen co-
ordinator of Rural Connections, a two-year project of the Grey Bruce branch of the
Canadian Mental Health Association. The program works to foster support networks,
organize seminars, and provide information about resources for farm families.
There are many groups offering assistance to rural people in the Grey -Bruce area,
but not everyone knows who they are, their area of expertise, what they offer, or where
they are located. Rural Connections hopes to compile a list of this network and may
eventually offer training to people working in this capacity.

GRAINS 2000 STUDIES U.S. CANOLA MARKET
Frank Vanhevel of R. R. 1, Bornholm has been selected as the Ontario represen-
tative on a committee established under the Grains 2000 program to study markets for
processed canola in the U.S.
Vanhevel has been chairman of the Ontario Canola Growers Association since its
inception in 1986 and serves as a director on the Canola Council of Canada.
Grains 2000 brings together farmers, industry, and government to develop policy
options for the grains and oilseeds sector. The canola market study is the second
project under Grains 2000. Demand characteristics and the structure and capacity of
the industry in the U.S. and Canada are key areas of the study. The potential for
