MULCH FINISHER
ALLOWS ONE PASS
John Deere's 724 mulch finisher,
which replaces the 722, prepares a
seedbed and incorporates chemicals in
one pass.
Designed as a secondary tillage tool
for fields with moderate to heavy resi-
due, the 724 is available in rigid (12 ft. 8
in. and 15 ft. 4 in.), rigid fold (19 ft. 4
in.), and flexible fold (24 ft. 8 in. and 30
ft.). The mainframe has 2 x 4 in. side
frame members, 3 x 3 in. cross mem-
bers, and 4 x 4 in. structural frame
members.
Disk gangs, with 71/4 in. spacing for
good chemical incorporation, have 18
in. spherical disk blades. Gangs also
feature a 16 in. tapered blade on the
inside and outside to feather the soil
being moved inward. Gang depth may
be adjusted from a position even with
the tip of the sweeps to a position 2 in.
above the sweeps.
Shanks, spaced on 8 in., centers,
have replaceable split tension bushings.
Replacing the bushing allows the shank
to be renewed after considerable use.
Shank trip force has been increased
from 85 lb. to 110 Ib. with a trip height
of 10 in.
A five -bar tine -tooth harrow in base
equipment provides good soil mixture
for chemical incorporation. Tines, 16
in. long with a 30 degree bend 4 in.
above soil entry, allow residue to pass
through freely and improve the stirring
action.
A new pivot lets the complete har-
row flex up to prevent bottoming out.
An optional spike tooth harrow is avail-
able for conditions where clods are a
problem.0
MOUNT PROTECTS
ROOFER FROM FALL
The Quik -Mount Roofer's System is
a disposable, inexpensive unit which
protects roofers from falling.
It includes a disposable mount, a life
line, a rope grab, and a belt.
The mount is nailed to the roofpeak
to anchor the life line. When finished,
the mount is bent over with a hammer
and covered with a the ridge cap.0
