WHAT'S NEW
NEW SILA-BAC FOR
HAY ON MARKET
After several years of development,
a bacterial inoculant recommended for
use on alfalfa hay of up to 25 per cent
moisture is being introduced by Pioneer
Hi -Bred Limited.
"The primary benefit a producer can
expect from using Sila-bac (R) brand
1155, which is applied at baling, is being
able to bale at a higher moisture, thereby
reducing field losses and weather risks,"
says Herman VanGenderen, inoculant
product manager for Pioneer.
Sila-bac 1155 is available in a con-
venient water-soluble formulation and
in two container sizes. One jar will
inoculate five tonnes of hay while the
other will inoculant 25 tonnes.
VanGenderen recommends exteme
care be taken to ensure that when the
applicator is set up, nozzles are posi-
tioned to achieve maximum and uni-
form coverage of the hay. Unlike many
acid or chemical additives, 1155 is non-
corrosive on metal baling equipment.0

Gehl Company is now marketing its
new model 860 forage harvester with an
optional Metal Stop metal detector.
"The 860 is an economical machine
that's made to take on just about any
harvesting job. Its simple design and
fewer working parts ensure easy main-
tenance and less down time than the
competition," says Terry LeFever, for-
age harvesting equipment product man-
ager.
The 860's Metal Stop option is de-
