1,;1,1,
KEEP IT UP, GORD!
My compliments on an informa-
tive and interesting rural magazine.
The calibre of your publication has
been topnotch for some time, but just
recently with the introduction of Gord
Wainman as a columnist, you showed
your true mettle.
Gord Wainman is one of the finest
agricultural reporters to walk the farm-
ing acreage of Ontario in the 1980s. It
was Gord who brought attention to the
severe plight of farmers in the early
1980s while our so-called agricultural
papers were denying the existence of a
financial crisis. It is Gord who has
monitored Ottawa's feeble efforts to
deal with the ongoing farm crisis, and
who has continued to print the truth
about politicians and situations despite
pressure being brought to bear on him
through Ottawa's influence on the
newspaper industry.
In your July, 1988 issue, Gord has
once again hit the nail squarely on the
head. The free trade deal being prom-
oted by our federal government using
Canadian taxpayer's money is treason-
ous. The future of the citizens of this
country is being free -traded away.
Canadians must realize that this is
not just another political issue to be
swept under the carpet because of
party affiliations. Gord is talking
about Canada's future, the future of
Canadian farmers and workers — and
the future of Canadian children.
Keep it up, Gord! Your courage is
appreciated. And, to the The Rural
Voice, you are one voice that truly
represents agriculture. Keep doing
what you're doing. It's great reading.0
