WHAT'S NEW
SYSTEM DISPOSES
OF TOXIC WASTE
The problem of what to do with
chemical residues has taxed farmers'
minds for years.
Recently, Britain's leading agricul-
tural sprayer manufacturer, in conjunc-
tion with the chemical giant ICI, intro-
duced the Sentinel effluent treatment
plant for use on the farm.
The portable unit, which uses the
Carbo -Flo process from ICI, consists of
a 1,000 -litre polyethylene treatment
tank in which residues are mixed with
pre -packed deactivating materials.
The mixture is then passed through
three filters, leaving clean water that can
be discharged into a soakaway or, with
permission from authorities, into a main
sewer. Remaining sludge can be dis-
posed of at a licenced landfill site.
