PIONEER OFFERS
SWINE VACCINE
Pioneer Hi -Bred Limited, Canadian
distributor for Diamond Scientific biol-
ogicals, is offering a new vaccine to
combat respiratory diseases in swine.
Concordm" V provides five -way
protection against hog diseases caused
by serotypes 1, 5, and 7 of hacmophilus
pleuropneumonia, plus protection
against pasteurella multocida and
haemophilus parasuis.
"All three of these disease catego-
ries," says Rudy Nusink, Pioneer mar-
keting manager, "present tremendous
economical risks for the hog producer,
but the key distinguishing factor of
Concord V is the haemophilus parasuis
bacterin."
Haemophilus parasuis has long been
recognized as the cause of Glasser's
Disease, but has more recently been
implicated as a trigger of meningitis,
polyarthritis, polyserositis, swine flu,
and atrophic rhinitis.
Haemophilus pleuropneumonia
prompts chronic poor performance and
can cause sudden death. The trend to
confinement operations contributes to
its activation and spread. Pleuropneu-
monia most often hits in the critical
growing -finishing period and follows
stress caused by moving, mixing, or
sudden weather changes.
Concord V is available in a 10 -dose
size. A 2 -ml dose is injected intramus-
cularly; the second dose is given two to
three weeks after the first.0
