R. 1, Shakespeare, 655-2245 TRIPARTITE STABILIZATION There will be no payment under this program for the 4th quarter of 1987. The national price was $152.80 and national cost $94.70/ckg. The support level was $145.20. The margins for all four quarters in 1988 are listed. The support level in each quarter will be current cash costs plus 93 per cent of the five-year average margin. Cash costs in 1987 declined from $96.14 in the first quarter to $94.79 in the last quarter because of falling feed costs and interest rates. This trend may continue into 1988. 1988Q2 1988Q3 1988Q4 54.73 43.64 20.89 38.24 47.52 32.34 24.50 34.46 45.71 54.12 108.64 92.27 92.62 104.03 58.00 YEAR 1988Q1 1983 82.04 1984 25.63 1985 40.12 1986 48.20 1987 63.50 Five-year average 51.90 52.64 67.66 49.85 93% 48.27 48.96 62.93 46.37 SHIPMENT SUMMARY REPORT The Shipment Summary report is printed by the OPPMB and provides individual producers with information on their annual marketings by weight and index (grade). A third section of the report displays the total number of sows and hogs shipped, gross weight, and financial information. These reports, mailed out in mid-February, cover the period January 1, 1987 to December 31, 1987. They will be received by all producers who shipped 100 or more hogs in 1987. Producers may request reports even if they do not meet the initial criterion of 100 hogs. Phone 416-621-1874. ANNUAL MEETING RESOLUTIONS An ongoing challenge for the OPPMB is find- ing out what Ontario's 13,400 producers want this board to do on their behalf. One of the best ways the pork board has found to help keep in touch with grassroots opinion is the county resolution. Each year the 43 county associa- tions submit up to 80 resolutions for debate at the board's annual meeting in March. Whatever the topic, resolutions stand or fall on whether they get the support of the majority of the 251 producer representatives at the meeting. Just how a county decides on a resolution varies. Some pass resolutions at their annual meetings. Others are passed by the directors of the county associations. If you want more information on how your county decides on resolutions, contact your county association. The 1988 OPPMB annual will be March 16 and 17 at the Toronto Harbour Castle Westin, One Harbour Square, opening at 10 a.m. on Wednesday. 1988 PCPPA EXECUTIVE President: Garry Van Loon (Dublin) 1st Vice: Clare Schlegel (Stratford) 2nd Vice: Cinih Vogels (Dublin) Treasurer: Vince Hulshof (Sebringville) Secretary: Rudy Van Dieren (St. Marys) 74 THE RURAL VOICE The Rural Voice is provided to Perth County Pork Producers by the PCPPA Producers receiving High Index Awards (750 to 1,500 hogs shipped) at the PCPPA annual: (from left) Joe and Theresa Kolkman, Ron and Susan Koert, Willie and Monique Louwagie, Rudy and Elizabeth Koert, and Marty and Karin Martens.
