PROFILE
"OUR EASIEST DECISION WAS
OUR CHOICE OF BREEDING STOCK,"
says Allan Krotz
Allan and Cheryl Krotz keep 55 Camboroughs
on their unit near Brussels. In the summer
of 1986, they stocked their new herd with
Camborough gilts and PIC Canabrid Boars.
They weaned 24.7 pigs per sow in 1987.
"Although I considered other breeding stock, I chose
PIC because of the size and scope of their genetic
program," he says. "I also found PIC has an excel-
lent reputation among other producers around the
province; the health status is high — an important
consideration when starting a new herd.
The most impressive aspect is the progeny perform-
ance. Of 173 animals we evaluated with our feed
supplier, the average days from 53.7 lbs. to 224.6
lbs. was 91.1 and the feed conversion was 2.77:1."
" Now that the herd is well established, I am
surer than ever we chose the right breeding
stock."
