MORE THAN 100,000
EXPECTED AT IPM
Harry Nesbitt, publicity chairman
for the 1988 International Plowing
Match, is already busy promoting the
Perth County event which is expected to
draw better than 100,000 people.
The large crest, which will serve as a
logo insignia for the 75th anniversary of
the IPM, was hand -carved in wood by
Doug Downey of Sun Signs Ltd., Gad -
shill. Downey's company will also be
providing additional promotional items
such as truck mudflaps advertising the
match.
Harry Nesbitt, publicity chairman for the
1988 International Plowing Match, and
the IPM's 75th anniversary crest.
The IPM site is the farm of Augustin
Walch of Downie Township. Walch
himself is active with preparations. He
is now negotiating with a Bavarian brass
band from his home town in Germany.
He hopes they will come to Canada to
provide some of the entertainment at the
match, held this year from September 20
to 24.
Further funds are being generated
from the sale of silver IPM medallions;
15,000 of the coins have been struck and
are selling for $30 each. Close to 500 of
them were purchased at the Toronto
Farm Show last month, and Nesbitt
plans to offer them at various provincial
agricultural trade fairs in the next few
months.°
