OMAF OFFERS CENTENNIAL AWARDS
A CENTURY OF ACHIEVEMENT

Agriculture and Food's centennial cele-
brations this year, 100 people will be
recognized for `outstanding service to
the agriculture and food industry."
Nomination forms, due on February
29, are availableatCMAFoffices. They
may be submitted by a rural organiza-
tion or any three individuals. No current
OMAF employees are eligible.
The Department of Agriculture was
established in 1888 under minister
Charles A. Drury. He had a staff of 35;
today the ministry employs more than
1,500 people. In 1889, his budget was
$24,500 out of a total provincial budget
of $212,145. At the time, two-thirds of
Ontario's population lived on farms.°
