Townsman, 1992-01, Page 33another 7,000 were passed out at the
Markham Snowmobile Show. As
well, to hit the target market as dead -
on as possible, an ad was taken out in
the Ontario Snowmobiler magazine.
"It's been a fair investment to see
if it's going to work," said Bruce.
"In time, it's meant a lot of
hours," added Pam.
In this year's series of tours, C
Mac clients will begin their vacation
on the Sunday of their scheduled
week, meeting at the five star Pine -
stone Inn in Haliburton, where they
will be treated to a sumptuous ban-
quet. The first leg of the trip will take
them the next morning from Pinestone
to Spectacle Lake Lodge, which is
located about 30 miles east of Algo-
nquin Park. Hors d'ouevres will be
served upon the groups arrival and
everyone will then be able to relax in
preparation for the next day's outing.
Following breakfast on the sec-
ond morning, the tour leaves for
Whitney, situated at the edge of Algo-
nquin Park. This is a special highlight,
Bruce says, as the route includes 30 to
40 miles of magnificent trails wend-
ing through the only area of the park
not restricted to snowmobiles by the
provincial government.
The actual tour ends the third day
out at the Nordic Inn in Dorset, then
the following day the entourage will
circle back, heading for the Almaguin
Highlands completing the day's run at
the Pickerel Lake Lodge at Burks
Falls.
Finally, the tour winds back
through the Muskoka Regions to the
Haliburton Highlands, ending at the
Pinestone Inn.
The last day of the excursion, the
guides will take participants touring
the network of Haliburton trails before
returning to Pinestone in time for the
evening's farewell banquet.
Breakfast the next day is the final
offering of C Mac's tour this year, fol-
lowing which clients are on their own
for a second look at those glorious
trails or to return home.
Being no strangers to the area,
Bruce and Pam are knowledgeable
guides on the trails. The only ones
they hadn't travelled themselves were
those in the south part of Haliburton
so they went up a week early to make
sure they wouldn't be in for any sur-
prises. As well, the Clarks have stayed
in each of the resorts and have only
high accolades for each. "I wouldn't
expect anyone to stay somewhere I
hadn't been myself," says Bruce.
In this, its fledgling year, C Mac
was offering four tours, but as Mother
Nature was a little stingy in the begin-
ning with her winter offering, the first
tour was cancelled. As well, with the
experience of previous years to
remember, interest in the three other
tours scheduled for January 19-24,
February 2-7 and February 9-14 has
been lukewarm. The Clarks, however,
believe in the feasibility of the idea
and feel the public will catch on to it
also. So confident are they, the pair
agreed early on that even if this year's
bookings weren't as optimistic as
anticipated, they would plan a series
for next year as well. "Word of
mouth would be our best advertising,
so it's only logical to try it again,
regardless of what the outcome of this
year is," Bruce said. "We were shoot -
ting for half this year, so would have
been ecstatic if they had all been
filled," says Bruce. However, the
Clarks were encouraged enough by
the people who called, that for the
1992-93 winter season C Mac has
already begun planning not one, but
two different vacation packages - one
to Quebec and one to Northern
Ontario.
