It is a hobby first, one that they enjoy and one they don't want to get any bigger. "We like being able to do the work ourselves," said Bill. Though Bill makes many things from wood, his toys are showpieces, charmingly nostalgic in their beauty. Rocking horses, barns, doll carriages, and wagons have the sturdy appeal of toys of yesteryear, replicating quality workmanship not easily found in modern toy stores. The wooden toys created by the Landons are not made of flimsy veneer, but of solid, rich woods, like oak, pine and cherry. As well, it is apparent that they are creat- ed by a man who takes pride in what he does, who adds the little extra fin- ishing touches that make his product special. The wheels he uses on his wagons are costly, about $60, but they are made to last. His barns, with slid- ing doors and a sloping gangplank inspire childhood imagination and are strong enough to outlive childhood exuberance. That is not to say that his work appeals only to youth. Bill has Like Santa, Bill Landon takes pride in his creations, blending artistry with skill to make realistic, durable toys. ••• •: •1' •: . . i•. i Make Your C ristmas Shopping Easy The Boof(Shop!
