Townsman, 1991-09, Page 19Dr. Murray Forest Wildwood Conservation Area Green Trail - 1 km Blue Trail - 2 km ( Interpretive Trail) Red Trail -3km ********** 0 Interpretive Trail Posts Wildwood Conservation area offers a ch ildwood Conservation Area's Dr. Murray For- est offers three trails ranging from the 1 km Green Trail, through the 2 km Blue Trail to the 3 km Red Trail. Wildwood is located off Hwy. 7 just east of St. Marys. The Dr. Murray Forest was begun by Stratford Dr. R.S. Murray who, in 1939, purchased a farm and planted 20 acres of trees. All three trails leave from an area at the back of the camping ground. The 2 km. Blue path provides an interpretive tour especially for chil- dren to learn more about nature. The trail leads from the area forest- ed by Dr. Murray to the willow -lined stream bank then through a wetland area and on into an evergreen forest. The path goes over some boardwalk then enters a hardwood forest. Later the trail leads back into a for- est dominated by spruce and pine. There's a path that leads to a small pond surrounded by dogwood bushes and willow trees then it's on to a white spruce plantation. Finally there's an area of quaking aspen, trembling in the breeze and you're back where you started. For the really ambitious there is also a hiking and cross-country ski trail called the Loop Trail that takes in a much wider area of the park and covers a distance of 18 km.
