all its owners and none have tried to
transform it greatly. The Virs have
closed a door that originally led from
the waiting room, which has only
made the room more intimate.
Upstairs, three bedrooms have
been tastefully decorated to compli-
ment the country charm of the house.
While the theme is the same through-
out, each room has its own individual
style. One is decorated in vivid
colours, one in soft pastels, and onc,
the honeymoon suite, is decidedly
romantic.
Purchasing the furniture for thc
house gave Linda a perfect excuse to
exercise one of her favourite pastimes.
She is, she says," an auction freak"
and it was with great delight that she
frequented as many as she could to
find the furnishings for thc Station
House.
The Virs are fortunate that their
full-time jobs allowed them the
opportunity to chasc this fantastical
dream. Linda is very much at home in
the role of hostess and cnjoys meeting
the people who come to stay at their
home. For Chan, the house has pro-

vided him with a retreat and an out-
look for the future. "I see it as a
business to retire to. Something where

his work it is not something he will
want to do for the rest of his life.
"Here it is such a relaxing atmo-
sphere. "
The Virs say that a good 70% of
thc people who come to stay at the
Station House arc from Toronto, com-
ing to savour the peaceful tranquility

of rural life in a place that offers the
best of both worlds. "To get people
interested we tell them the stops along
the way," says Linda. "There are hun-
dreds of things out there to see and
do."
Blyth Festival generates a lot of
business as well. "That was just one
more thing that convinced us to buy.
We enjoy theatre and the people that
come to see it," said Linda. She says
that some people have come to stay
without no intention of going to see a
play. "We talked them into it and they
thought it was marvelous."
But, Blyth Station House has a lot
to offer on its own. Attractive and
neat it is an excellent example of what
can be done with the buildings of our
heritage. They have stories to tell
behind their walls and with a little
work can be restored to former glory.
"To me it's the ideal," said Chan. "A
century house that's old, but new.
Even before it was renovated, it
couldn't have been difficult to get past
the flaws to look at the beauty ."
Linda was not surprised by Chan's
impression. "I knew as soon as I saw
it, he's got to like this one.
