About 250 of the 1,800 provincial
cream producers are located in Grey
County. A small number have a milk
quota in addition to shipping cream.
Two member meetings are held each
year to keep producers informed about
productivity, pricing, availability, and
quality control. Guidelines for produc-
ing and shipping cream "are stricter than
what we've been used to," according to
Grey County president, Howard Fligg
of Rockford, and information meetings
help producers to improve production.
Three directors' meetings are held
annually. Brian Hastie of Bentinck
Township is first vice-president, Bill
Allison of Markdale second vice, and
Mary MacDonald of Ayton secretary -
treasurer. There are seven directors.°
PORK PRODUCERS
There are close to 1,000 pork pro-
ducers in Grey, which has four zones
under the provincial organization.
Mike Atkins, county president,
notes that the Grey producers hold regu-
lar educational meetings with guest
speakers and panel discussions.
Atkins operates a 450 to 500 sow
farrow to finish operation near
Clarksburg. He also has 70 acres of
apple orchards. Don Hargrave of Mark -
dale is county secretary.°
